I'd like to see which cart the 'purple' one is, whether it's an R4iTT or some other cart that I've never seen before.
The only purple cart that I have is an R4iTT 3DS RTS.
If it has a screw on the back and more shallow indents, its usually a DSTT clone. I believe the Acekard clone versions don't have the screw.

I'm entirely too lazy to hunt them all down for a picture, so y'all get Google'd images of them.

Bennvenn's ElCheapo SD for GBC (Mine looks like the one pictured, but it's hardware revision v2.0)

Mine does not have a hole for the screw, and it's a purple cartridge, so it's one of the many Acekard clones that do not have the screw.

DSTTi clones include the R4iTT 3DS with a purple shell, screw, blue PCB with the 'r4itt' silkscreen, and the R4iTT 3DS with a black shell, screw, and red PCB without the silkscreen marking.

Well, I don't have a big collection but I'm happy with what I have so far:

IMG_2365.jpg

  • Supercard micro/Mini SD
  • EZ-Flash Omega
  • EZ-Flash Junior
  • M3 DS Real (actually, my first flashcart ever but the one in the photo is not the one I had back in the day)
  • N5i (broken, maybe due to corroded contacts)
  • R4i SDHC V2.0 "DS Happybox" Upgrade 1.4
  • R4i SDHC Gold Pro 2020 version
I don't know if it can be seen in the photo, but the M3 DS Real is held together with tape since that cart had the worst plastics I've ever seen, also, I had to open it up since some of them seem to have broken springs in the micro SD slot. Of course, all the plastic tabs broke in the process (there was also a hidden screw in the corner I didn't see because I'm a dum dum).

I'm also waiting for a rewritable GBA cartridge with RTC and a light sensor sold by a seller in Aliexpress named Epicjoy. There is a thread about that cart in the GBA forums.

The N5i with a white shell has the same board as all the R4-Advance and R4i LL XL carts, which are based on DSTTi clones. They both share the same firmware updates and kernel, so it's not impossible to support later System Menu versions beyond with what is advertised. Last firmware update will work with DSi v1.4.4 and 3DS 4.2 (here), but most of the older carts are blacklisted on later system updates, and thus can be easily bypassed by installing custom firmware.

R4i SDHC V2.0 "DS Happy Box" cards are R4SDHC clones, but they will only work with cards under 4GB because the SD I/O implementation was based on the original R4DS and was tweaked to work with SDHC cards, but not very well.

It's likely going to be based on the ChisFlash as there's already clones out there in the wild. (I.E.: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007037247997.html)

I didn't know that. I remember the menu of the N5i and it was similar to the original R4 kernel. I never tried to run the DSTTi menu but now I wonder if it was possible.

The one I have seems to be working with 16GB SDHC cards, but I had some corruption issues in the past which may be explained by your answer.

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't aware of the ChisFlash existence.

By the way, the part of the image you linked where the N5i PCB is shown was photographed by me, I actually just found the original photo in my computer (and you can see the corrosion I was talking about). I'm fine with other people using it... The problem is, I don't even remember posting it! Did you get that image from Discord or from another GBATemp post? I was actually kind of jumpscared when I saw it :)

I found it on Discord a long time ago from you, but then I totally forgot about it up until now. If you want some great tips on how to clean corrosion like this, then ConsoleMods has a dedicated page: https://consolemods.org/wiki/ConsoleMods_Wiki:Cartridge_Cleaning

The N5i white kernel resembles the R4i-SDHC kernel, but it's not the R4i-SDHC kernel. The SD card capacity for example is fake and is a part of the top-screen bitmap. Selecting one of the options launches a different application (for example, 'Games' opens YSMenu).

I recommend replacing the outdated kernel with YSMenu entirely. https://gbatemp.net/download/retrogamefan-multi-cart-update.35737/

As for the N5i black cartridge, this is an R4SDHC clone which runs the R4i kernel.

Yeah, It makes sense that photo comes from Discord, I guess a similar topic was being discussed there when I posted it. Also, thanks for the tips for cleaning corrosion, but I think the contacts in my cartridge are too far gone, I will attach some crappy "macro" photos so you can see how bad they are (I only have a macro extension tube for my camera so it's as good as it's gonna get until I can get a real macro lens). I suspect one or more connections are broken between the pads and the rest of the PCB.

OMG, that's one of the most "knockoff flashcart clone" tricks I've ever seen, I don't think I ever noticed back in the day.

Here's a preview of what the menu looks like in an emulator. No SD card inserted and it says 32GB in the bottom-right, regardless of what capacity card you insert, it's still going to say 32GB. You can even see the JPEG crust on that SD card icon.

Definitely one of IF not the sneakiest "flashcart tricks" that nobody has ever noticed.

The menu software that this is based on is similar to that of R4i-Gold.hk, but with a new skin painted over.

What emulator is that, melonDS or Desmume? I didn't know you could run some flashcart kernels in current emulators. Also, that menu looks really similar to the one my R4i SDHC V2.0 "DS Happybox" uses.

MelonDS.

Fun fact. You can run Wood R4, Original R4DS, or any supported kernel in MelonDS 1.0RC as it emulates the R4DS/M3 Simply carts; however, it's only those carts and nothing else like the DSTT or SuperCard, but I wish they'll be support for those sometime.

You will need a dump of your physical R4/M3 Simply cart to make it work, as well as an SD card image mounted.

To be fair: it shows max 32GB. Not that 32GB are inserted

This is my current collection
20250215_170346.jpg

Apart from the r4issdhc.com card all of them should(tm) be working, although some of them need a good cleaning of the contacts before they can be used.
And a close up of the single cards without a box
20250215_170517.jpg

I'm pretty sure that I have a box for the Games n Music somewhere but I'm not sure where. Also, the grey card next to the R4DS Pro is an acekard 2i (of the batch that randomly appeared a few months ago). The white card is a supercard dsone (also of the batch that randomly appeared a few months ago).
Useless homebrew is a rewritable GBA bootleg that I rewrote and relabeled and grimace's birthday is a rewritable GB bootleg. I still count them as flashcarts because they are rewritable.

Ooh wow. This is by far the biggest and best collection I've seen from you yet.
