- FF IX (PSX)

- FF Chronicles (PSX)
- FF Origins (PSX)
- FF IV Complete Collection (PSP)
- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP)

I've played a few hours of FF IV on the DS but that's about it. I quite liked it but gave up due some other DS game coming out that I was more hyped for. I have also played DQ IV and DQ VIII, which I have both completed, so I think JRPG's are definitely something for me.

im leaning towards ff vii but mainly because i read everywhere that's one of the best rpg's ever made, and i haven't played it.

Play FFIV CC
You've started it; might as well finish it

FFIV, Origins, Chronicles, or IX...out of those, Chronicles, as it contains Chrono Trigger, however if you don't want to play Chrono Trigger, FFIV CC.

why play
FF Origins (PSX) FF1, and FF2

when you can play
Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition
Final Fantasy II Anniversary Edition

the GBA version of FFV and FFVI may run better then the Ps1 versions

i must say i haven't played ff vii ever, so wouldn't you guys suggestm e that one? everywhere i go they say it's THE best rpg ever

because I personally think it's over-hyped. It's a good game though but "best" is an over-exaggeration.

I just recently finished ff vii and also its not the best rpg I ever played or something like that its still a nice long game. I suggest you play it if you are willing to spend over 50 hours on it so you wont be clueless every time you read someone going crazy about it.

cuz gamerankings ranks those games no where near the scores of those other titles. anniversary editions both only get around 65%

forgot those FF V and FF VI titles! also could play the SNES FF III game. SO MANY TO CHOOSE SO LITTLE TIME

If you want a traditional style JRPG then don't play Crisis Core because its very different.

7, 8, 9 and on par with eachother in my opinion.

If you want to replay FF4 then go with FF4 Complete Collection. It has the original game with updated graphics and a sequel.

FF Chronicles is the SNES FF4 and Chrono Trigger in one. If you haven't played CT then I think pretty much anyone will agree its one of the best games for the SNES.

FF Origins is FF1 and FF2 in one. In my opinion, not really worth playing. Story is pretty much non existent and the gameplay is very basic as you'd expect from the first two in the series.

There's your answer.

Go ahead and play FF:VII and witness the greatness yourself. If you're gonna play VII, when you're done with that you should follow-up with crisis core and finish the experience with the awesome FF Advent Children movie.

I will recommend that you play from the oldest FF (FF I&II was mehh, you may want to start with FF:III) and work your way up.

Crisis Core and Advent Children are both rubbish and turn Cloud into something that he wasn't in FFVII when he was introduced.

Crisis Core is amazingly over-rated solely because of the connection with VII. Nice FMV, shame about the game.

The entire FFVII series is overrated rubbish. FFVII only got the acclaim it did because it was the first 3D FF game. The novelty wore off over 10 years ago, but people won't shut up about it. Crisis Core is pretty garbagy with many oddball mechanics and characters that don't seem to fit the story at all. Trying to give it all back story helped to show just how much they were trying to milk the game.

Advent Children was kinda meh. It was more obvious milking. And not in a good way.

FFIV: Complete Collection is pretty fantastic. FFIX is the best PSX title, imo.

You forgot FF Anthology for the PSX containing FFV and FFVI. Probably the 2 best FF games in the entire series.

yeah, that's maybe in a dream or so but i do not have the motivation nor the time to play through all these lengthy RPG's. i've got to choose

No it didn't. Sure it was overhyped but as a complete work it's the best of the PSX games and merits repeat plays, followed by VIII then IX. VIII got broken by it's borked levelling mechanic and IX had a poor storyline, so-so characters and was far, far, far too easy. Yes it looked nicest but as a game it was the weakest.

People play VII and think they've seen everything, only later to realise that the story is more complex than they realised. And that's not fanboyism, that's me realising that what the game wants you to think and what actually happens are two different things.
