Gaming Where's Mario?

Ok I accept we have Mario Odyssey coming out soon but what about the standard side scrolling Mario game that normally comes out with Nintendo consoles......

Nintendo seem to have changed their system.
You mean the incredibly long tradition of nintendo making a 2D-Mario as a launch game? The one they abided by come hell or water high? The one main thing that defined nintendo as much as that "one more thing" of Jobs? That one thing they did for the astonishing number of...one single console?

Yeah...they baldly went and totally changed their system.

Three actually.
  • NES (international): Super Mario Bros.
  • SNES: Super Mario World
  • Wii U: New Super Mario Bros. U
Including handhelds, four (or five):
  • Game Boy: Super Mario Land
  • Game Boy Advance: Super Mario Advance (technically a port, not a new game)
There was also a port of Super Mario Bros. to the Famicom Disk System available at FDS launch, but that's basically the exact same game as the NES/FC version.

That having been said, Virtual Boy, N64, GameCube, and Wii did not have 2D Mario games as launch titles. (Mario 64 was an N64 launch title, but that isn't a 2D Mario game.)

Mario went on to have a Sonic Adventure. :P

He wet to "the iso site"

I'd like a real mario rpg. Complete with turn based battles and everything that made the original so good.

Mario Maker should really technically be the end of 2D Mario games.
The community makes much funner and more interesting levels. All they have to do is keep releasing new stuff to play with.

and y'know port it to Switch with more features. Might help.

I know they had them as launch games before (even if that was 25 years ago), but you'll agree that "normally they release this as launch title" isn't quite true when there are more exceptions than cases in recent history.

Plus, if they're smart, they'll just release a Mario Maker with a full map editor and story mode. That way they get to make a full 2D Mario game with minimal effort, but also have the advantage of letting the community make literal full games for them after they release it
But I want Super paper mario 2, Though an editor would not be a terrible idea.
