    free as in foss? opensourcewindows.org has a good list, opensourcemac.org for the mac bunch. tons of great and useful freeware around the internet. lifehacker/downloadsquad are great blogs to follow. and you can always browse softpedia/download.com and versiontracker/macupdate for os x apps.

    QFT, any shareware or freeware apps you're looking for will be on there. Unless of course you mean getting paid-for apps for free illegally. Then no-one can help you on here.

    just google for something like

    "open source XXX" (replace XXX with what sort of software you want)

    there are open source alternatives to most programs now, and most are as good or better than commercial or "free" programs.
