If the 3ds was in a 2d only state it would have access to more vram, 384KB to be exact. Not that much but its something. And of course it would be twice as quick processing wise. You would be able to make some pretty nice visuals with that added power. Better visuals in this day and age is something you can't ignore. And lets be honest the 3d effect doesn't look that nice during gameplay. I understand the 3d gimmick is a great selling point and how Nintendo won't drop it easily, but they dropped motion controls with the Wii so at least there is some hope. I'm going to say there won't be a serious game to come out in 2d only until all the 3d hype dies down, Which I'll guess will be in a year or 2.

THE FULL POWER OF THE 3DS well not really but this is in 640x480 resolution so it wouldn't be that crazy to say a 3ds game could look something like this.

Well Cubic ninja wasn't in 3d. But it doesn't necessarily mean it has better graphics than games that have 3d.

or maybe it was now that I think about it but it still doesn't mean it would have more power for graphics or whatever.

Dead or Alive 3DS doubles the framerate if you turn the 3D off. With this in mind, it would be entirely pointless to release non-3D titles. If you knew that, you wouldn't have created such a spiteful topic. But you had to air your opinion about why you don't think 3D is good enough for you. Do you want a golf clap ? Do you want premium jellies and jams ?

You think that Nintendo dropped motion control support ? Are you paying attention to anything besides your own opinions ? Have you ever heard of Skyward Sword ? How about the Wii U ?

Please, remember this: 3DS have to draw the scene *twice* to have the 3D effect. Of course, with some smart math, some of the calculations per frame can be avoided, but for simplicity, let's consider that whatever you saw in the video, you can have roughly half of that quality / polygons / speed / (add your preferred 3d aspect here).

On the bright side, there's anti-aliasing on that video, thus, since 3D images doesn't have anti-aliasing, you can get some speed there. But still, don't expect a 3D game to have all the features you saw in that video. ;)

It's still an awesome video for a mobile graphics chip. :D

There so much wrong in this post, but I address this...
You seem like you trying to speak for everybody when you said this, but you couldn't be more wrong with most people.

Do you even have a 3ds?

I think it off only when using gyro.

Some games enhance the visuals when they aren't using 3D mode (such as adding anti-aliasing, or increasing the frame rate), so they try to use what they can when they can.

What I would like to see is them using the screen as if it were actually 800x240 in 2D. It would require that they still render the scene twice from slightly different perspectives, but the parallax barrier isn't active.

I don't know if that's a great idea, but it sounds like a great idea

I don't think that would work. You have a big overlap between the 2 displays, it's still only going to look like 400x240, you'd just have a weird shimmering effect as the two images alternated.

You know what I'd really like to see
good 3D and HD. no bull I would go out and buy a handful of 3DS to share the experience if Nintendo did this.
I mean I could care less about 3D but if it had HD and 3D then I might just turn my 3D on for once.

oh and to throw this at the OP:
Chunsoft already released a non-3D game in Japan and it didn't do anything for graphics but then again I think it was a VN or something.

Not gonna lie ive bashed 3ds 3d alot. However i dont think thats quite fair of me. I think in all honesty, the 3D depends on the game. After scrolling through art on colors 3D, and playing a 2d platformer with the 3D effect, i can honestly say its really come to impress me. Therefore, id like to keep 3D games. I think if more and more effort is focused on the 3D, itll continue to become way more than a gimmick.

Yes it is. Especially with all of these games coming out from indie devs, graphics are starting to lose their touch in being a major factor of games, thank fucking god.

I love it. I don't like playing my games without it.
but they dropped motion controls with the Wii so at least there is some hope
Wait.... What? How did they drop it if Skyward Sword came out in the fall and it was nothing but motion?

I spoke wrong when I said they dropped motion controls. I mean they allowed developers not to use motion controls.

EDIT: Better visual fidelity depends on the developer and the hardware. Both of them need to be good for better visual fidelity. For example Super Mario Galaxy looks better than many Xbox 360 games, even though the 360 has much better hardware.

EDIT2: This too
I think in all honesty, the 3D depends on the game.

The low visual fidelity I'm talking about is low quality models, bad textures, low res textures, pop in geometry, and aliasing.

I would actually be fine if they added anti-aliasing back and doubling frame rate, but they are actually removing that.

For maximum visual fidelity you would have 30fps, no AA, no 3d, and a AAA developer which brings us back to THE FULL POWER OF THE 3DS

What? I don't believe Nintendo ever enforced any developers to use the motion controls...why do you think the Wii launched with the classic controller? why do you think some early Wii games had Gamecube controller support?

this is one of the best ridiculous sentence I read this year! Kudo!

I love it, always use it when I play. Perhaps you can't see 3d very well. It's not an insult, but a fact: a lot of persons don't see 3d very well, or even not at all and only realizes it when trying a stereoscopic visual system. Much much more common that what you would think.

You guys are pretty biased I'm not gonna lie. I'm not surprised though since this is a Nintendo sub forum. Btw can a mod close this thread it was a massive fail on my part.

We're biased? When you came sprouting you 3d hate like you trying to speak for everyone with wrong information throughout it then saying because it a Nintendo sub forum?

Yeah, ok.

My point exactly. You would only understand if you could see through the bias btw.
You really didn't give a real reason why we are bias to say we like 3d and other opinions while trying to correct you and I didn't
think you really can. We not ones that came out as if we are speaking for everyone.

You basely saying, they didn't agree we me,therefore they are bias.
