Hacking Whats this about ppf patching and 001 errors?

I just got a wiikey so I'm new to this stuff. But I keep reading and hearing about PPF patching and error #100. What is this, is this a issue on certain games or certain chips, why must this be done and when do you get the error? Should every game be patched just in case?

It's the 001 copy protection. It's in place in almost all new game releases since Mario Galaxy. The game will detect it's running from a copied disc and refuse to play, instead displaying an error message: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMv_E-VlVHs
All major modchips, including Wiikey, got new firmware updates that counteract this new protection. Once updated, the game will run fine without any errors, and without the need to patch it.
