I'm still on 3.4.something (last update to support acekard =( )

Is it worth updating to the latest firmware? What's been added since 3.4?

no. there aren't any major features added through the current updates, but the code execution exploit was patched. (the exploit isn't currently released to the public, but why upgrade without a reason when you know you close that door?)

The people who made the 3DS hack (that 5.x fixed) specifically stated, multiple times, that they will not release it.

The only reason I update is so I can access the eShop to download demos and the occasional game. If you're not interested in that you have no reason to update.
That is, assuming you've already downloaded the Mario Kart 7 1.1 update so you can play it online (even if you don't own the game yet you can still download the update)
