Well title explains everything really.
I've been offline for just under couple of months now and since coming back i've seen several stories concerning geohot and the PS3 code being cracked open, I'm just looking for any guides with details of whats needed to get stuff up and running on my ps3, devices, softwares, CFWs ect as currently all i knew about was the PSJailbreak device and i'd like to start familiarizing myself with latest developments and attempting to get the spare PS3 up and running with whats available.

Cheers in advance for any info/links posted

p.s would like to mention i have Googled the names of some of the CFWs out there and there are guides to downgrade firmwares and install CFWs ect but i'm really wanting to know which ways are safer than other.

This guide is outdated also...
Afterall its simple. PSJailbreak has been replaced by CFW.
You will need to update to Official Firmware 3.55.
Then, you will need to get in recovery mode. (while ps3 is turned off , hold power til you hear 1 beep followed by 2 beep, then you can release power)
Here you can update to kameaw or waninkoko v2 CFW.

and you are set.

All that is needed is a usb drive that is at least 200 mb!

Most popular essentials:

- kmeaw (cfw)
- blackb0x 1.2 (ftp)
- Multiman (backups)

Then you can pick and choose whatever homebrew you fancy

ahh cool so u no longer need a PSJailbreak?
I downloaded a big update with a bunch of stuff in cos finding the kmeaw.rar has been awkward to find. will see what i can do

also, is it possible to go online with games that u have backed up now?

It used to be possible for CFW to go online. Now 3.56 is needed to go online. A DNS exploit exists to go online whilst on 3.55 (I heard it's for US only), but it's only a matter of time before Sony patch that up.

thatnks for all your help guys.
I have kmeaw installed (3.55) the guide tells me i need to install lvl2.pkg, not sure where that is and what else do i need?

sorry for the noobish questions i'm just trying to get into swing of things

Seems to be an outdated guide.
The lvl2.pkg is already implented in multiMan. Be sure to use the newest version -> 1.15.00 (of multiMan
