Gaming What You Like/Dislike About The 3DS

Dislike:

• MGS and RE not among the launch titles; only Kid Icarus seem to really show the capabilities of the console
• just one user-facing camera (3D chat not possible)
• (reportedly) not really that powerful: no antialiasing in 3D, less triangles per scene than PSP. Lots of games will probably have PSP-level visuals
• (reportedly) battery life doesn't match DS
• (most probably) no MP3/DivX playback
• (most probably) no built-in rumble despite rumours
• screen resolution could be better (Sharp's 800x480 3D screen could have been used). Also, would love 0.5-1 inch more
• ugly three-layered sandwich design
• no WarioWare game in works
• (according to Nintendo) would take long to crack it in order to allow homebrew

Like:

• stereoscopy without glasses, which can also be turned off
• slidepad
• built-in web browser
• videos showing off ported MT Framework
• (seemingly) there will be more mature/hardcore-gamer-oriented games than on DS

Dislike the constant stream of pointless 3DS speculation topics. I hope this thing does update it's firmware without asking, and I hope it has the AP on the CPU like ARM were going on about. I wonder how many people will be saying how great it is when they can't pirate games!

If ever? Have you seen the colour selection the DS lite saw over time? I'd be surprised if we only see one shade of red.

It's not likely I will ever buy one.

How is tag mode a show stopper? It has no negatives, and can be turned off.

The other two are just different ways of saying "I can't get free games so do not want."

- The cool charging stand (with it it's natural to charge it whenever not in use, so it's ok if the battery life is not-so-good)
- The slider pad

- Teh raw powah

Not so much
- The d-pad doesn't seem confortable to use as the main control thingy, maybe as an auxiliary set of buttons but not to control characters 'n stuff
- Design... or rather I don't dislike it but it's not über-awesome which is what I honestly expected

Honestly, I don't think I'll get the 3DS just yet... I'll wait for either a new version akin to the Lite or a price drop. Or until the game lineup is so awesome it starts to hurt not having it

All reports so far have claimed that the slide pad is excellent, far outperforming the PSP's tiny analog nub. It's bigger, and concave, so your thumb won't slide off all the time.

As long as the 3DS still looks sleek which it does, and still looks pretty damn durable which it also does, then I have no beef with it. Son, I am proud.

dislikes:
* plastic painted silver / chrome (ugh...repulsion maximus)
* useless waste-of-plastic bundled dock (to me)
* 0.3 megapixel cameras (again!)
* silver-painted slider (with thin design is awful). Should be a flush-but-fatter and more easily thumb-grippable slider, not stick-like and protruding like a primitive prototype. Silver paint will wear away.
* gloss (both external AND internal surfaces - unless something has changed). Who asked for more slip and more distracting reflections?
* battery not very easily or quickly swappable enough (much like previous units except for the better original GBA and Game Boy designs which allowed the practical bringing of spare batteries)
* crude blocky less comfortable design lives on - no real improvement to ergonomics
* non-16:9 top screen. We have 15:9 instead. Not ideal for movie watching.
* small top screen (again less-than-ideal for movies compared to even the current PSP with origins half a decade back)
* no confirmation on MP4/AVC playback / MP3, etc.
* pretty poor resolution specs for a next-gen portable (IMO)
* claimed poorer battery life

likes:
* accelerometer and gyro
* 3D and 3D camera (though camera resolution is positively stone-age and will be Flintstone-like in coming years).
* analogue controller
* more power
* DS compatibility (though black borders and smaller images won't be fun)
