anyone else disappointed with the "3D Classics" selection on eShop? seems like such a wasted opportunity as theres NES games that just scream for a 3D update. but unfortunately the games they choose just seem an odd choice for 3d classics.

    3D Classics: Excitebike
horrible. it docent work at all. feels like the jumps are farther away and its almost impossible to stick a good landing, also, why does this need to be 3D again?

    3D Classics: Kid Icarus
    meh. waste of 3D effect.

    3D Classics: Kirby's Adventure
why 2 side scrollers? besides kirby is a kids game.

    3D Classics: TwinBee
this one is actually perfect. which is ironic considering its by Konami not Nintendo. if your going to choose a side scroller for 3D upgrade, Twinbee is the perfect choice. the mountains, hills, and clouds look amazing with the 3D effect.

    3D Classics: Urban Champion
the 3D effect is ok, but why Urban Champion? what an odd choice, a crappy launch title that nobody remembers. they would be better off releasing "cluclu land".

    3D Classics: Xevious
why 2 horizontal Shooters? besides there are better ones on NES that havent been released on the many, many "Namco Collection" over the years. no thanks, ill stick with my Pac-Man Plug n Play.

OK, heres what the 3D Classics should have been....

    3D Classics: 3D Worldrunner
    3D Classics: Rad Racer
why not start with 2 games that were originally designed to be 3D and also desperately needing Depth Perception. i can only imagine how awesome the 3D effect would be on these. no Glasses required!

    3D Classics: Duck Hunt
imagine Clay Shooting in 3D as the little clay pigeon flys into the distance....
if your going to have to re-program a game from the ground up anyway, why not do something thats never been done before? they could have aiming via the touchscreen. if the homebrew programmers could do it on the Wii Emulator, why cant Nintendo?

    3D Classics: Punch Out
dodge punches in 3D. sadly no mike tyson for obvious reasons.

    3D Classics: R.C. Pro Am
i think those overhead racing games would look cool in 3D
Replace with Snake Rattle & Roll or Cobra Triangle if it matters.

3D Classics: Adventures of Bayou Billy
this would be neat because it combines 3 different genres, Beatem up, Zapper, and Driving, so you get the best of both worlds.

    3D Classics: Arkanoid
ok, this dosent really need to be 3D, but it would be nice with touchscreen support, or even analog pad would be great. Kirby Block ball and Alleyway works fantastic with the analog stick.

    Kirby is not a kids game. Kirby is by Nintendo right? So Nintendo must be a producer for kids games and consoles then? You must own a 3DS and that makes you a kid then ;A;

Okay but ot, I agree 3D Classics are shit, but be happy they at least gave something. ^_^

Anyone can reel off a list of 3D classics titles they'd have rather seen, and most of them would be different to yours. They should have based 3D classics on SNES games or GBA games. It would have been easier for them to do because they're already layered so not as much extra work is needed. 3D Classics: A Link to the Past would have probably sold quite well if it was released next month.

snes arent on ehop, and nintendo decided not to release GBA, and because i own an ambassaor 3ds i completly understand why. their GBA emulator sucks. theres this motion blur everyimethe character moves.

and i thought they just released a zelda game based on link to the past for 3ds

i agree with McHaggis, there really should have been some 16-bit 3D classics title, i know Sega already made some for the japanese eShop and for some asinine reason they haven't brought them here yet

seriously who doesn't want to play Super Hang-On, Sonic 1 or Space Harrier in 3D

3d World Runner = Space Harrier

    Rad Racer = Out Run

thats the reason i said those games should have been 3d classics. but i completly agree, i wish theyd release sega 3d games

    That's besides the point.

It's out in November, which is why a 3D Classics version of ALttP would have done really well if released just before.

I lament the absence of 3D Classics Starwing. Sure, we got the N64 remake upgraded to 3D, but I wanted to see how mental Out Of This Dimension would be in 3D.

dont know iif it would work if the NES 3d classic is 6.99, then how much would a SNES game be, $15 or so, way too expensive, i could just run SNES9X emulator for free, or pop in the GBA cart. or play on a real SNES. 3d would probably be unimpressive on an overhead rpg anyway, and snes graphics are beautiful to begin with so not much room for improvement.

A Link Between Worlds is also an overhead RPG in the same style as A Link to the Past and the 3D visuals look pretty impressive to me. And not everyone can be arsed with emulators, roms or dusting off their SNES that's been stored in a box in the loft for several years. Not to mention, you could say the same thing about the NES.

    Also, this.

wishfull thinking. snes starfox used special hardware. some emulators run it ok, but its usually hard to emulate.

the new zelda game is completely built from the ground up, not emulated, so it required a heck of a lot more programming, and it will be probably priced at $50. so its more profitable for nintendo.

also, Link to the past was re-released on GBA, so it can be played on gamecube, a DS lite, or gba sp, or just through supercard ds2 built in emulator.

Right. What I'm saying is you could maximise profitability and publicity by remastering an old game to promote the new game. It's been done before.

also, Link to the past was re-released on GBA, so it can be played on gamecube, a DS lite, or gba sp, or just through supercard ds2 built in emulator.[/quote]

Which has nothing to do with anything. A very large portion of 3DS owners will have never played a GBA game on their DS Lite, or used an emulator, or owned a GBA SP. And if you want some comparative arguments:
    • At least one of the games on your "wish list" is available to download right now on a Nintendo console.
    • At least two games that Nintendo already released as 3D Classics were re-released on the GBA.
    • Nintendo has a reputation for (successfully) re-releasing games that can already be played on a current or immediately previous generation console (see New Play Control).
tl;dr your argument of "what's the point?" doesn't really hold.

    A couple of things:

Urban Champion wasn't a launch title for NES, it was released almost a year after the system launched, it was ported to NES after being a hit on the Famicom and in Japanese arcades. I'll admit it hasn't aged well, but it was released before most 'tempers were born.

Kirby's Adventure was developed by HAL Laboratory, it was only published by Nintendo.

Look at the titles in the OP's list, there's a reason why they were picked, and it comes down to aesthetics and ease of conversion. Exactly the reason why games like Rad Racer, R.C. Pro Am (also not Nintendo developed games) and Duck Hunt would be hard to convert.

im not sure the 3D classics make any sense at all, unless maybe they are easier to program.

-excite bike adds nothing new. the 3d effect is barely noticeable for this type of game.

-side scrollers is a poor choice for 3d because all they did was change the background

-urban champion look good visually, but is boring and repetitive

-horizontal shooters look awesome.in 3d, but really don't need 2 of them, xevious being the lesser of the two.

inb4 nintendo releases a link to the past on the a link between worlds engine as a secret post game feature...

that would make a link between worlds one of the best releases of zelda...

also the game comes out in november... its getting a worldwide release? i havent heard about the Japanese release at all

3D Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island would be excellent, particularly YI.
