So, I'm thinking about modding my Wii U after recently modding both my Wii and 3DS, but I'm not sure what kind of storage device I should use for storing the games, I know you need a SD Card for the homebrew stuff (gonna get a 64GB), But I'm not sure what to use for the Wii U games, I've been thinking of a USB drive, but people say it's not good, should I use HDD or something different? For anyone wondering, I'm gonna get something around 256GB.

USB External Hard Drive is the only option and it works fine, but you must get one that either plugs into the wall or buy a separate cord that plugs into two ports of the Wii U otherwise it won't have enough power. It literally won't work at all without one of those two.

If you want 20 to 30 games 256 is a good size. Games range from 1 gb to 20 gb.

Thanks for the answer, I'll order the stuff and I'll try modding the Wii U, will probably respond with if it works or not.

Update: I modded my Wii U and it works! Using only a SD Card works too, for the "No GC Injects" thing, I wasn't planning on putting GameCube games on my Wii U anyway, I have them on my Wii.

I use SDUSB which allows to use a single SD Card for everything (homebrew, Aroma, vWii homebrew, GC, Wii and Wii U games) though it requires setting up ISFSHax, and two partitions on the SD Card (one for Aroma and vWii homebrew, and the other partition for Wii U games).

With this setup, a 256 or 512gb SD Card should suffice. Also note that GC Injects don't work with SDUSB. You'll need to launch GC games through Nintendont (vWii).
