I am brand new to the PSP modding scene, and I need a bit of help. My friend gave me his old phat psp (that he never used) for free. Its firmware is 2.71 and it has a 32mb memory stick (the one that came with it) and the normal 3.6V battery pack. I want to be able to play PSP ISOs and run emulators, what should I do/buy to do so. Sorry if this has been asked before but the search function yielded no results.

Easiest would be is to check if someone mods PSPs on your locale and go buy a 4GIG memory stick.

I don't even know where to start. It seems like I should buy a Pandora's Battery and a larger memory stick. Then I somehow downgrade it?

He just.... gave it to you for free ? Wow, you must be good friends huh ?

Anyway, check out dcemu.co.uk for homebrewstuff and the like.

You don't need Pandora's, if you have a phat.

You can put custom firmware on it easily.

Like I said, go over to psp-hacks, and see what they have to offer.

I have been looking at the tutorial section for a bit now and it's not quite clear what I have to do and why I have to do it? Do I need to downgrade it? Flash it? I'm not sure...

When you get a better Mem. Stick, if you want the best Custom Firmware, you gotta upgrade to 3.52 M33 version 3 or 4, then you can either go to 3.71/3.80/3.90 M33. I would suggest you go to 3.80 M33 v.5, it seems to be the most stable, I havent tried 3.90 M33, cause I've heard that its still pretty buggy.

It's not that uncommon to receive a free PSP from someone you know

I got mine for free from my little brother after he traded 2 MP3 players for it so he could swap out the screen. I ended up with a PSP that had a broken joystick, broken power board, and broken screen. All of which were replaced quickly and inexpensively via internet shops.

get a larger memo stick 2GB should do if you're just gonna be playing a few PSP games here and there. Datel Tool Battery Fatty or Slim and do what this guy did. With this method it's not gonna care what kind of Motherboard you have.

Part one

Part two

Part three

Alright. My PSP is now version 1.50. I have no idea what to do next? I have read all the tutorials on the subject, and I'm still lost. I got my 2 GB memory stick now too. Can anybody direct me in the right direction?
