What is a 1:1 clone of the R4? I do not get that term. Sorry if this is a noobie question, but I'd like to know the meaning of it.

The 1:1 R4 clone is a clone of the Original R4 that acts EXACTLY like the Original R4 in every way down to the precise hardware used and the software that can be run.

As it stands now, every "Original" R4 available is a 1:1 clone.

1:1 clone is essentially the exact same thing as a real R4.
Which is pretty stupid, because if 1:1 clones are considered clones, then real R4 are clones as well.

That makes no sense. The "real" R4's now are considered clones as they aren't manufactured by the original R4 company (as they no longer exist).

It means that it is actually a true clone, with identical hardware. When people say "clone" they really mean "clone or knockoff" as some of the R4 "clones" use different hardware and thus are incompatible with R4 firmwares like R4 Wood due to different hardware. It is like back in the old DOS days, some SoundBlaster "clones" could use the Creative SoundBlaster drivers while most could not (you had to use their own driver software) because they weren't true clones.

A 1:1 clone is a clone built the exact same way as the original but made by a different company or someone else.

Yeah, the 1:1 phrase is used to indicate it's an identical hardware copy, because most "R4s" nowadays use different hardware.

Every R4 clone for awhile now has used different hardware. No R4 clones except for the 1:1 has the 2gb limit, supports Wood without it specifically being made for it, etc. etc.

QUOTE(Luckybucket @ Jan 9 2011, 08:46 PM) So, the 1:1 clone can do everything that the Original R4 can do, correct?

No more, no less.

Ah, Thank you.

Here is a picture of one.

Edit: It's also a great card to get if you have a DS lite.

Simply put:
Just because you go out and buy all the exact parts to make a watch, put it together the exact same way they do and put it in a box that says 'Rolex'... doesn't make it a Rolex.

When used the way it is in "1:1" the colon (:) means a ratio. Said out-loud '1:1' would be "one to one", or equal parts.
In this case, it means the clones are "equal parts" to the original -- the exact same.

Elaborating on what twistidsinz said:

A 1:1 R4 clone is an R4 manufactured by someone other than the R4 team as they no longer exist with the exact same hardware and software. All original R4's made today are 1:1 clones.

If I were to go out and buy every single part of an R4, the exact same case and photoshop the exact same sticker, then put it all together and put it in a box that I made that's exactly the same as the original R4's box, that doesn't make it an R4, it makes it an R4 1:1 clone.
