I want to buy a external hard drive for my wii u so I can install all the wii u games into the hard drive I already have my wii u cfw and have a up installer but I want a hard drive that doesn't need power I want it to work by just simply plug ing into the back off the wii u

Well I'm seeing online that most portable hard drives needs a y cable so what do you guys recommend me getting for my wii u? What's the best hard drive? I don't need more the 1tb

I have a external drive carry whit a 2.5 1tb hdd any hdd carry that uses neither external power or a Y usb cable works fine on the wii u

If you readed correct he wanted a drive that doesn't need "power" not extra power like you saying.
As i read it like that, i read it like that he doesn't want a 3,5" hdd.... that requires a power plug....
Well, a Y cable is a cable with a power and data input so...

you can make a Y cable, thats what i did, But I also have loads of spare parts lying around.
If you're willing to make a cable, you can probably get away with just adding a capacitor between power and ground in a single USB instead of making a full Y. It has been reported that is typically enough to prevent the under-volt condition and corresponding drive reset same as using a Y.

Thanks everyone with the help I appreciate I've already order a y cable and a portable drive off amazon :)

I made it years ago before I knew how to use resistors and capacitors, back when me and waninkoko made the 1st backup loader.....
