I used a code in battle network 5 DS, it worked fine. However, the instructions for it was that it was a DEBUG code and that I should use it at my own risk. What did that mean?

First of all, wrong section.

To answer your question, when something is 'debug', it means it's glitchy and incomplete (and it's supposed to be only accessible to testers). Meaning that the code can cause your GBA (or DS) to freeze, or the game to glitch up.

the debug code might bring out the testing room for the dev
sometimes some valuable info is kept there
sometimes they just wipe out everything and the testing room is meaningless

why used at your own risk? maybe the changes you make inside the debug room might be permanent?
just make sure your backup your save before you test the code
