Gaming What do you think about the Half Life series?

I love the series, specially HL2 and the Episodes, regardless of what many people in this thread say. Sometimes, mostly during the vehicle sequences, it does get a tad tedious. That, and the fact that most of the HL1 story was filled post-facto are the only two weak points I see in this series.

PS: BTW, the 3 Episodes are, in fact, Half-Life 3. Gabe Newell, Valve CEO aka "the man with no neck", said so. They are releasing them as episodic content to save the players from the six-year gap between HL1 and HL2.

Still, they are working on a brand new, game to continue after episode 3 with a whole new engine and everything, to be released 20 years from now

I just beat Portal (hilariously awesome game) and I'm moving on to Half Life... I never played the first game, but so far Half Life 2 is pretty good. The beginning is a little boring because you're just running and running from the cops... but the story seems pretty good! The graphics are great too. Have any of you guys played the entire series? How is it? Does it get better later on?

I really got into the game once I got the gravity gun, as the story sorta hots up then. Then again, I hated Ravenholm. Too scary aha.
But yeah, I guess the vehicle sections can get a little drawn out, but it's different to most games out there. If the whole thing was shooting on-foot, then it wouldn't be as interesting.
Anyway, you have to remember that it's a 4-year-old game. Many of the things it does were revolutionary at the time, but have been repeated or bettered since.
Still a great game though, and it stands the test of time pretty well

Unfortunately Ep.1 is a little poor and repetitive, but Ep.2 tends to throw a bit more variation into the mix so it's a bit more fun. I recommend you play them all anyway, especially so you can experience Ep.3 and HL3/4 (assuming it comes out) properly.

The thing with Half-Life 2 is that it did a lot of things really good when it came out and a lot of games have copied them (and probably improved them), so if you play it now you'll probably think something like "omg this game that came out a year/two/three/four years after H-L 2 is so much better in aspect that was popularized by H-L 2"
