aside from the usual homebrews, playing backups
playing GC/wii/ wii u games natively?
playing PSX/PS2 games? (how strong it is, really?)

I know switch won't be hacked anytime soon, but I am just wondering the potentials

It's not possible to know in this stage, but when we gain access to the Switch's full power, we may even get up to Wii emulation. No way you are ever gonna play Wii U games on the Switch, EVER.

I don't fully agree with you on the wiiu part, but hey maybe I am wrong. Time will tell.

No, there's literally no way anyone's going to playably emulate Wii U games on the Switch
emulating botw on a system that has it's own version of botw already, wat, lul, would love to be able to play at least the gc twilight princess on there though

Probably no need to hack the Switch...

Rainway app is coming in the future. You can stream emulated games on the PC, and control them via Joycons, and use Rainway to stream the games to your Switch, while still staying legal, and not get banned via hacking your Switch.

This means, there is less motivation to develop emulators for the Switch. Motivation still exists, but it will be a blow.

Yes, there are pros and cons to this:

1. Not everyone owns a powerful PC.
2. Not every emulators run as fine as those on the PC.
3. A lot of PC games are never going to be ported to Switch. This is the reality.
4. Not every non-Nintendo exclusives will be ported to the Switch.
5. Not all Mature only games will be on the Switch.

wii u emulation on switch with that I guess

edit: but the possible lag

Yeah, with Cemu progressing nicely, the devs probably won't even bother porting it to the Switch. Decaf emu devs probably won't port the core unless they feel the core is stable enough, which will take a few years to actually get things going.

Rainway is capable of 1080p @ 120FPS on the Switch, so there shouldn't be any worries about lags, except for input lag. But since you will be streaming from home, it is fairly minor to fix.

input lag is what I'm scared of *shiver*

don't even think about Wii U on Switch lmfao. even Wii emulation would be difficult to do as the similar Shield TV has trouble running Wii games with a higher freq than the Switch's.
that's why I said at least gc twilight princess, gamecube had some decent games, and we were talking about wii u through rainway

Oh, OK, but there was some posts about Wii U emulation at the beginning. Wii U through rainway will definitely be possible tho.
I mean, if we were talking the jump from wii u to switch for botw got it from 720 tops sometimes to 4k all the time kinda power jump it might be possible but a console is never powerful enough to emulate it's previous iteration, though there is the architecture being the same that can allow it to run naively, aka backwards compatibility, which switch lacks completely

Hey, maybe we would get a REAL port of Beetle PSX that runs more than 6 fps, you know, because people actually seem interested in developing for it. There's PCSX-ReARMed as well. Not that I'm taking a jab at a certain scene or anything *Ahem*

I feel like it might not be powerfull enough but maybe we could get a ppsspp port to switch in the future :/ once that happens I guess the switch may end up replacing the psp as an emulation machine
