Ad-blockers have become very popular as sites are often uncomfortable to view with ads.
I actually have GBATemp whitelisted because I want to support the site.
I'm using NanoAdblocker with a lot of additional filter lists. It's a modified version of uBlock.
The only reason I'm using NanoAdblocker and not uBlock is that NanoAdblocker can bypass a lot of sites that would normally detect your ad-blocker.
What ad-blocker are you using? Do you have any peculiar filter lists?

uBlock Origin. My old rooted phone had AdAway installed, but these days, I don't do much web browsing on my phone, aside from Twitter and Reddit.

Wipr for macOS. Don't liked Ad Block plus because I had to downloaded it. Wipr does extension instead so I prefer that. And I don't liked UBlock Orgin because of my bank online had an issues with it so I had to disabled it. Wipr does the job just fine.

I use Ublock Origin with Nano Defender and AutoplayStopper on my casual browser. On my privacy-focused browser, I use much more extensions on top of Ublock Origin.

Funny you should ask. I use(d) Ad Block Plus in Firefox Quantum, but 10 minutes ago Firefox proclaimed the plugin "unsafe" and "unverified" and removed it on its own so now I'm not using anything I guess. Luckily this thread came up at this very moment, with a ton of recommendations to look into, but seriously, WTF.

Use your hosts file instead. I have network wide ad blocking, so I don't have to worry about setting up individual devices.

Yeah but for example some places might display it as some kind of connection error, and what you really want is for it to seem like it isn't there.

I use Adaway and Ublock Origin.
What's funny is I had a VERY similar experience to you. Yesterday, suddenly my Icedragon browser (which is Firefox based) suddenly told me 3 of my add-ons were no longer compatible. Ublock origin, cookie auto delete and one more! I spent the largest part of the next several hours trying to determine what happened.
Eventually, I had to manually download my add-ons from git hub and disable signature verification before I could use them again

i use the hosts file. No website can block that lol. The ad place holders are either gone or says cant connect.

If anyone wants the file let me know. I created it myself from looking at a sites code to get the ad urls..

hosts file (http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm) + ublock/nano adblock + umatrix/noscript (depends on browser) + video autoplay blocker (as imperfect as it is, way too many sites want to play video)

Still doesn't catch 100% of things, but every time I browser without any of the above...I can't understand how other people handle the cyclone bomb of ads.
