my metroid prime hunters went in a washing machine and it worked fineafter i let it fry out. as long as the card is non volatile(no electricity running through it when its turned off), in theory it shouldnt get wrecked.
 
Preventative measures for games i would suggest, Gluing card pockets to the ds, or attaching a chain to the ds that carries the cards.That way the cards are always with the ds.
 
my mario kart has been through the wash twice and works like new, still has stickers with no sign of being washed at all. The metal contacts are no problem, they're just contacts and don't even rust.
 
Just a couple of notes, since the last time this thread was active was before I even joined this site:

If you douse your electronic devices such as DS games, put them in a ziploc (or similar) bag of uncooked rice for a number of hours. I recommend 24. The rice will absorb the water and might save your equipment.

DS games are Not waterproof.

I know both of these things from experience.
