Hacking vWii Softmod

I'm sorry if this has been asked before I couldn't find a specific answer in search:

How safe is it to softmod the vWii? Can I restore to factory settings if something were to happen? How would I unbrick it?

I've had a original wii I've had softmodded for the longest and never had any problems so I have some basic experience, just I love my Wii U and don't want anything crazy to happen with it!

There's no real way to restore it to factory settings and you can't unbrick without soldering up the right hardware to your Wii U.
