Even simple games like Super Mario would suck without violence. Instead of stomping the Goombas, you'd have to press the action button to shake their hands (evolution is a possibility), then they go on their way home.

I think it's mostly because now parents are too overprotective and try to shield their kids from everything.
If it were the same here in the UK, we'd have unattractive game packaging with large warnings like 'Playing video games is highly addictive, don't start', 'Protect children: don't make them watch you play video games' or 'Playing violent video games harms your baby'.
Honestly considering the amount of sport and kart games they appear in that weekly club is probably already a thing. In fact, have a relevant image.
