FLAC please. Chew some space dust if you want to hear warm crackles. :)

But seriously, like Clarky says, if the CD has been mastered badly (as many are) then you might get wider dynamic range from the vinyl (assuming it has been mastered well). But then you have to "put up" with pops and scratches. Some people like pops and scratches (not me).

The quality of CDs is often ruined because of the Loudness War http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war ... vinyl was not immune from this practice but it appears to be more prevalent in CDs. That does not mean that CD is an inferior medium.

Return songs, whatever the format, to the shops if the quality is not good and tell them why. And write to the record companies with the same complaint. That is the most effective way to put an end to the Loudness War I think.

Whatever the rip im getting from the torrent is usually fine. Whether it came from a Cd or vinyl, Doesnt really matter.

I grew up with CD's, but my parents have a HUGE record and cassette collection, so I love that fuzzy feeling that comes from vinyl/decrepit cassettes
Actually, I prefer MP3's, cause you can pirate them

CD's because I haven't had a working record player since the 80's. And even when I did, records sucked, always getting scratched and stuff. I know CD's can get scratched, but mine never have, and they don't get scratched by just playing them anyway. Keep your needles, I'm in the future using lasers, sucka.

I prefer CDs since you can guarantee that a digital rip will be more or less identical if ripped correctly from different CDs.
