Aye, i figured you were kidding. I should have known.

@Jothri- well to be totally fair, plants cannot "feel" nor are they self aware from a scientific perspective. It's the central nervous system and the brain which gives most animals the ability to consciously live.

Yeah, my friend is a vegan - basically avoiding everything that uses animal products (eg. gelatin, fats, whatever). He hates on butter/milk/eggs because we take things away from animals for our own causes. I say the same thing for plants - you take the seeds and process them - the seeds are the way the plants reproduce!

It's a cycle - some meat eaters bitch on about how veganism/vegetarians are stupid, and they should STFU and eat some meat. And then you have the vegans, who like my friend goes and complains about the meat eaters. You basically have three options, 1) ignore both sides, 2) quote environmental statuses, 3) quote evolution...I don't know what's worse.

#3) is the worst

Nah. I generally go with 1...until I can't stand them - and interestingly enough, both sides use evolution as a reason....

True, both sides use evolution to control what foods you are supposed to eat. It's not meat or vegetables that you are supposed to have but the things IN them. Like, someone says you need meat for protein? Well you can get it there, or beans, or anything else.

The growing of grain and soybeans kills hundreds of millions if not billions of animals every year; things like field mice and other small animals that can live in crop land. They get chewed up by the machinery that works the land and harvests the crops. I have never heard an animal rights vegan call for the growing of these crops to be made safer for animals, despite this being the bulk of their diet.

That's not to say that no vegan has a clue how these things actually work, but most that I've known are foolish enough to think that a vegan diet doesn't kill animals.

So... no matter what they eat, people are selfish and will kill off animals regardless. We truly are the greatest disease this planet has ever seen.

Then why is there animals/meat in this world then?
If there was no animals/meat how would we have lived?
If there was no animals/meat how would we do our work?

IMO I hate veganism. Anyways its somewhat easy countering their statements.

You just don't get it. No matter what resources ANY life form uses, those resources are no longer available for other life forms. Plants and animals cause other plants and animals to die whether they eat them or not, just by living. This is normal. It's not wrong, it's just the way life works.

Same reason that you are in the world.

The exact same way that most animals live, BY EATING PLANTS.

You require animals to learn to count and spell and type and sing and draw? Tell me how much of your own work is done by animals, then tell me how many of those job are impossible for humans to do.

You may now counter my responses, take your time is you wish.

Spinal, you've hit the nail on the head. We ARE the biggest blight this planet has ever seen! We rear animals for food rather than hunting, we take up vast amounts of space, chucking all other animals out of the area. We pollute the air and water systems and we are, in general, a bunch of pricks to every other species! As for Destructobot's point, no other lifeform on the planet grows crops intensively and actively kills other species on mass scale by chopping down their environment, accidental killing in combine harvesters or pesticide spraying.

I'm still eating meat though (not the battery stuff though if I can help it, free range tastes better) as its something I like the taste of and have evolved to like the taste of. Meat is the easiest source of quite a lot of essential vitamins and amino acids in our diets and, while you can get vegetarian alternatives, the human race has evolved to be omnivorous meaning that we are genetically made to want meat. If you wish not to that's fair enough just don't expect to convert the entire human race as there's a million and one things that will go wrong.

The main problem with us humans, is that there are far too many of us. Because of that, we spread out, use up all the planets resources, destroy various species of plants and animals just because we feel like it. Turning the whole world vegan will not solve any problems. We just need less people. I'm not suggesting we go around killing off the human race, we have enough wars and natural disasters to take care of that and I would be considered some sort of evil dictator if I suggested that we try to convince the human populate to the just have less children as people, in general don't like being told what to do. So I see no way out of the trouble we, as a species have got ourselves into. We can not tell the world to be 'better' people, because, well, they wont listen. So, one day, the planet will wipe most of us, if not all of us out. The human race might get a second shot, it might not, that's how it works, you try to destroy your planet, if indeed that is really happening, the planet reacts, floods, quakes etc.
I might have gone a little off topic there, oh well.

Oh, and I do eat meat, I have no ethical problems with it because that's how I was raised. But I do understand the health benefits of vegan/vegetarianism, so I don't really have a 'side' to this argument.

Lions eat meat(AND humans, although we're more of a variable to their diet than anything, but they still won't hesitate to tear us apart if they're hungry) and no one gives a crap about them! Why complain about us? It's not like rupturing the bodies of innocent wildebeests is any better than the way we slaughter them...

And I don't see animals fighting for human rights either.

1. Uh true I suppose. Still if we don't use our resources then why have them?
2. Ever heard of carnivores?
3. Well this is more of back then before machines but where did I say that we couldn't do it? We are lazy and we do like machines to do our work.
4. Alright your turn.

Only in the way that they should stop voicing their opinions.
I don't recall paedophiles voicing their opinions.

Your friend is a control freak, he really needs to let other people live the way they want to and be more open minded to other lifestyles.

Have your opinions but keep them to yourself, ffs.
KKK members and pedo's don't want to voice an opinion. They want to kill black people and rape children. If you went as far to make THAT connection, you're in dire need of some counseling. As for door to door christians, well, they've waged war and killed people over their opinion.

Now stop me if you've heard otherwise, but i've never heard of a vegan (or any kind of diet) kill someone over their beliefs or lifestyle. Except cannibals of course, but lets not go there...
