So I've managed to 'maybe' find some resellers stocking the Gateway3DS (still marked as preorder) in Australia but my main question is...

The games are region locked and so is the 3DS?

Meaning, all of the 3DS ROMS I can currently see for download are US, EU or JAP

I have an Australian 3DS so would that mean I would have to wait for some AU roms to appear online? (or does mine classify as US?)

Any help on AUS Gateway and ROMS would be appreciated, thanks.

EDIT: Purchased my 3DS XL today with '2012TM' on the box and it came on 4.4 firmware

Is this just your guess or is this confirmed?
If this is true, I'm assuming I would download EU roms and not have any troubles?

It's confirmed. It even is written on the covers of 3DS games, "this game is playable with the european and australian 3DSs."

There are only 3 3DS regions, see the letter at the end of your firmware version number:
U for USA/Canada
J for Japan
E for Europe/PAL (includes New Zealand, Australia, etc).

I think there is some special stuff for Korea (and maybe China), but I am not sure about that.

You'll want game carts for EUR region, but ROMs are basically region-free now, assuming that the latest video from Gateway team is a proof of them defeating the region lock on 3DS.

The 'cart' I'm looking for is the gateway and from what I've seen there isn't US, EU versions??
To be safe I should order from an Australian reseller though

It doesn't matter from where you order the card from, the cards are all the same, the gateway is not region locked. You have to get roms that match your console (unless region free is true)

The region only comes from the ROM you are using not Gateway. And the released a video aparently showing an alpha version of a new firmware that can disable the region lock and spoof firmware versions.

You can buy Gateway anywhere in the world that won't make a difference to your console. What you need to find is Roms that support your console. Since you live in Australia, you would look for EU Roms.

I'm from Australia and we are the same as European version.. Gateway 3ds supports region spoofing anyways.

@Xdqwerty No you heard wrong, and don't believe till you experience yourself. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of all time. Yes it had issues early on, esp with older hardware like the xbox1, but it is awesome, esp now being 4k on Series S/X or PS5

@BigOnYa, Then i think people were talking about fallout 76
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    that one was buggy too
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you right there, fallout 76 was a letdown, but it not that bad now, they have fixed slot of issues they had at launch. Biggest issue with Fallout 76 is its a pay to advance further type of game, which sucks
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
