My wii is collecting dust and was wondering if it would be possible to write a homebrew app to send wireless data to the usb port and act as a router?

sure
not exactly the best way to get a router
but if you goal is tinkering, then why not

you would need some carefully selected (open ppc driver) but still of the shelf hardware (1-2 usb lan, maybe a usb wlan)
if going the homebrew route you would probably need to write the software from scratch, I don't think anyone has ever done something alike
or you could use linux which should already have anything needed

Thanks, i haven't got into programming yet so this will be a challenge but i think i should do some more research before i give up.

edit: I just realized if i go with linux i could probably make a bridge with the wireless connection. im just not sure if it would work through usb though.

Note that for getting your programming feet wet this isn't even the deep end.
More like the open sea (and probably a shark or two).

this idea has been thought up and discussed in the past, and apparently no one had gotten anywhere with it, not because it is too tough but basically because it is not worth the effort.

IOS doesn't allow you to have both a wireless and wired connection active at the same time, so linux would be the only practical answer.
