Newer PS2 Slim's can't read some PS1 memory cards because it doesn't have the 7,5v on the memory card slot at pin 3. Mainly third-party ones, although on mine my original Sony card doesn't work, but a old third-party card does.

Some places (like this) suggest you can just link the 7,5v from the controller port to it. But if I look in the service manual, I see that pin 3 is labeled "PS_MODE" and is connected to the mechacon, it's not a unused pin.

I also found out that some PS1 memory cards which are not detected in the PS2 Browser does work when is PS1 game is booted. But not all of them.

So, is it safe to connect pn 3 of the memory card slot to 7,5v or is there any other method (excluding the use of a multitap) to get all PS1 memory cards working on the PS2 Slim?
