I remember reading about it months ago so I forgot about it, but yesterday I connected an unlicensed third party controller and that message showed up.

It can't even be used to cheat on games like people on Reddit were claiming, it's obviously about paying M$ to make officially licensed controllers, money.

Well, if it stops working that sucks for sure, I'll use it on PS3 as it's compatible.

I'm guessing Nintendo and Sony will eventually do this, too.

What controller is it?
"N2" not much else other than it was made in China.

There's not even a Turbo button which would be useful if you'd play GTA IV's final helicopter mission.

Here's another one.

Bought it as it came with an official Xbox One white controller and was very cheap (used marketplace). I did have to remove a skin the controller had, no biggie.

Unless you're buying an Xbox controller third party that's officially licensed, you better don't as this message will likely pop up.

The controller itself is an identical clone of the Xbox Series controller, there's nothing extra, no Turbo button, nothing. M$ just wants you to go and buy their $50~$70 controllers.

Wait, it can happen on an Xbox One? That's really mental that it can happen suddenly without your knowledge.
Probably on a Series X/S, too.

That blue controller is somehow $44 on AliExpress, M$ is effectively killing these controllers.

Of course you can still use it on PC, but defeats the purpose as it was meant for Xbox.
