Hacking USBLoader, bricks, and preloader

I have a Japanese Wii with 3.2J firmware, no modchip, the latest homebrew channel installed, and just installed the USBLoader 1.1 according to the stickied tutorial here. I used Gecko OS to play my (original) US and PAL games before, and it automatically blocked any updates from the discs. Does USBLoader also automatically blocks game updates to prevent bricks?

Also, I'd also like to get the shop channel working again, as well as the SD card functionality of the 4.0 firmware. What is the best way to upgrade my Japanese Wii, and still being able to use the HBC, homebrew, and the USBLoader?

And finally, do I need preloader? I want to mess around with my Wii as less as possible.

USBLoader ignores updates, so yeah, you're safe there.

Cool. So I do not have to hassle with Brick Blocker or tools like that?

Yes, it does. Why don't you just try? It won't hurt even it says update, you still can reject it.
