Just wondering, is it possible to use an external USB drive to load games? I just ripped/downloaded a few, and realized my IDE drive is only 40 Gigs, but I have a TB external I might want to use.

And before anyone thinks I am talking about a 360, because the original doesn't have USB ports, I DO mean the original. The controller ports are just USB, and it is possible to hardware mod them to use a usb port instead.

Possible?

Far as I know, you can't do it. The ports are 1.1 as well so even if you could get it to work, you'd probably have issues with the games anyway.

Better upgrade the internal IDE drive.
Or burn them on DVD.

As Armadillo said, you'll have major loading issues and lagging of games since the "USB" ports are only USB 1.1.
It's just not worth it.

As for a new internal HDD.
Backup EVERY folder you have on the 40 gig HDD.
If you have a modchip just plonk in the new drive and run Slayers.
Then delete every folder on the newly installed HDD (C:/ E:/ and F:/ root)
Copy everything over that you have backupped.
Boot your Xbox.

Enjoy having a bigger harddrive without the worry of manually recopying everything or reinstalling everything.

edit: A good way to find a IDE drive is to look for old computers lying around or ask your neighbors and try to persuade them to upgrade to a newer computer.
It kind of worked for me ;p
