I have just started using the USB Loader GX for the first time after always using disk loaders. When I attempt to load certain games, I get a "Error: Failed to extract opening.bnr". I have tried searching Google to see what the cause is as well as learning about the opening.bnr error and am left still wondering what the actual cause is. I am unfamiliar with what .bnr is. I am sure its simple but if anyone can explain what this error stems from, I would greatly appreciate it. Also if someone knows what I can use to fix this such as a checking tool or something like that it would be very helpful.

System specs are:
3.2U with cIOS249 and Rev14 with Bootmii
Using latest USB Loader GX with the included channel installed.

I am still 3.2U after not using the Wii for a while.

Thanks for any help with this.

I found that changing USB Loader GX revisions has stopped that error message from popping up on the few games that would trigger it.
I downgraded from rev825 down to rev785. Despite no longer receiving that error any more, when attempting to load a game (Super Paper Mario for example), The game still will not load and will go to the black screen when using either 249 or 222.
I guess I solved one problem only to find another

In the latest builds, it plays the audio from the banner before you launch the game...

My understanding is that opening.bnr is the banner - ie, what you see in the disc channel.

It may well be the same error - if it can't load the banner or the game... and it just isn't trying to load the banner in older builds.

Another possibility for the black screens is a video mdoe issue - are you trying to run games which are from another region?

I hate to be a n00b. But this thread is crazy, with the amount of info i it.

Can someone point me to the Link to grab the latest CHANNEL for the USB Loader GX? Thanks a lot.

I'llmake sure I book mark the page, and not ask this question again

Try the first page of this thread. I recommend the forwarder rather than the embedded channel especially since USB Loader GX new revisions very often.

EDIT: Meant embedded and not imbedded. Even though imbed is a variant of embed.

Hi there,

In rev - R822 *Added WiiPowers New Super Mario Patch. (Thanks WiiPower)

In lamens terms, how does this code effect a non patched main.dol file or what is it actually doing, if you don't mind me asking.

thanks

It's "layman's terms."

I did view that and wanted to ask the experts as I'm just a noble peasant.

Peasants are never noble, they are at the bottom of the rung in comparison to the nobles. Nobles ruled over the peasants, peasants worked the land.

I think that information will help you out more in life than figuring out what the Super Mario Patch does.

The embedded (not imbedded) channel is fine, as you can update the installed channel the same way you update the one on your SD(HC) card, via WiFi. Many people simply update via WiFi and won't notice the difference of having the program installed on the NAND vs installed on the SD(HC) card, other than being able to use USB Loader GX while the SD(HC) card is unplugged.

Anyway, the link is here:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/18738422/3b1397...annel_WADs.html

Which was found on the official site here:
http://usbloadergx.koureio.net/downloads

Remember, even if the latest channel doesn't utilize the latest revision, you can update that easily yourself. Simply install the latest channel using WAD Manager, launch the channel, and then click on the settings button (the one with gears on the lower left). Go to the page with the Update button and click on it. Yes, the channel can update itself

Just wanted to say this application is amazing. Love the 'Install Game' feature... just switched to USB HDD, and being able to directly dump games from disc in the Wii to the USB HDD is great. Wish there was a way for the program to automatically retrieve the art (covers/discs) from a server. I know it may be difficult, and possible expensive for server if lots of traffic occurs. But I'm just too lazy to download them and put them on my USB card manually. Otherwise again this is a great app... so very happy to have it.

Except that USB Loader GX already downloads both cover and disc art from a server. Just click on any boxart on the left side and you'll see it.

*smacks forehead* also just watched the youtube video on the front page of the thread. thanks for the reply too though. this app keeps getting better.

New question about it. Just downloaded the box art, worked fine, except for one title. I have FIFA 10 (R4RZ69), but it's getting the Family Feud 2010 box art (FF2010 is the previous game in list, don't know if that's just coincidence)? Tried to delete the file and have it re-download, but same thing. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Nevermind about last request... found the database site and manually updated them. Still weird that it downloaded the wrong one, cause it was correct on the website.

You made a good point. Not only did I notice the "Failure to extract opening.bnr" error disappear after downgrading revisions, I also noticed the banner music go away as well. Based on that alone, It sounds like its the same issue/solution.

As for the black screen issue, I cannot seem to figure out why I have this problem. I have tested an NTSC game on a NTSC console and still get the black screen. I do not know if this helps any but I have had black screens in the past on disk loaders to where I could not see anything but I could hear the audio as I waited such as intro music, ect but I am testing this with Super Paper Mario which I know has compatibility with the USB Loader GX and know that being that its NTSC on my NTSC system, It should work but I still get that black screen as if nothing has even happened/loaded.

I wonder if my Wii's component cables have any effect on the black screen problem.

Could do... might be worth experimenting with forcing certain modes. Maybe it is launching in a refresh rate your TV doesn't support or something.

I think that's the only thing left to do being that the revisions have not changed the results for loading the games I am having problems with. I am sure it will be some setting that I have not set yet or something small I have over looked.

Thank you for helping understand what that opening.bnr error was. At least now I can eliminate one problem and focus on the other.

My Wii has been working great for 2 weeks with latest version of USB loader GX. I run firmware 4.0E and installed latest Cios Rev 14. Then suddenly my USB loader stops loading my games, well it works, but I have to wait like 5 minutes before it starts an intro movie with extreme lag. It looks like I´m running a game on an extremely old PC. Impossible to play a game like this. I tried nummerous USB loaders but they all give the same problem. I have a WD Elements 1 TB HDD connected to the WII thats totally WBFS Formatted (No partitions).

When I load a game from USB loader, you get the music that comes with it directly (when it's working good). Now I have to wait like 5-10 seconds before the music starts. Thought this might explain my problem.

Hope someone can help me, cause I don't see the problem

I can only say that yesterday I made an update and that lag problem happen.
Then I rebooted my wii and it was over...

Ahh good luck for you

I been trying almost everything since since last night. Rebooted my Wii for over 50 times, but still not working lol

EDIT: Figured it out! If you have a USB HDD with an additional power source this is the solution: Put the power adapter in your USB HDD before you plug the USB cable in the Wii D0H

Yep, you can store stuff on the USB drive instead of the SD. You need a primary and active FAT32 partition on the USB drive. However, I'm not sure how the Channel (as opposed to Forwarder) saves its config file. Normally the GXGlobal.cfg file is what stores the path information, and you would go into that file (in the config folder on your SD card) and change the paths starting with SD:/ to USB:/ and you'd be set. You can also click on the settings button (the one with the gears in the lower left) within USB Loader GX, go to page 2, select Custom Paths, and select a path to change. You then click the folder icon next to the full listed path at the top of the screen to go into keyboard mode and change SD:/ to USB:/ as well. Either of these two methods works, although not sure how they are saved if not to the SD card config file.

Hello,

One short question to this section about usb loaders

I have PAL 4.2E wii one of the first units at the release date.
I updated from 4.1 to 4.2 with the 4.2 safe updater via homebrew channel.

I have homebrew channel Installed on 4.2.
also have lastest bootmii installed and have a recent copy of my wii's nand

so What I need to do in order to get USB loaders to work, like usbloader gx??
Can USB loader be forwarded to the wii system menu on 4.2?

thank you in advance

-Hojo203

When LoaderGX will be able to show the opening.bnr? If he can read the music and play-it, why not the "video" inside?
