Just installed HBC using xzxero's Modify ANY Wii 4.2 guide and I downloaded r938.wad. Haven't modded a console in a while so I haven't been keeping up with the revisions to USB Loader GX. Is there anything wrong with this particular revision or is there another that people recommend over this? Is it still as simple as installing the .wad through Wad Manager?
I usually use the .dol file, and boot from HBC or from the forwarder channel (I think it's easier to change the revision on the SD card than using a wad manager each time).
But, yes, the wad version has to be installed through a Wad Manager like you always did.

Then, if you followed the guide, you should already have all the needed cIOS.
Though, I recommend you install cIOS38 v17, the one provided by the guide is cIOSx v19 and is not supported by USBloader GX. (well, the support has been added in 921 and removed in revision 931 because it was buggy).
And for wad managers, cIOS38 v17 are better/easier too, cIOSx use another based by default.

Best choice are :
- cIOS rev17
- Hermes cIOS v4 (not V5, same as cIOX 19, support has been dropped in r931),
some games needs IOS37 (mostly USB music games (guitar hero) and Monster Hunter Tri for example), so for that particular games use the IOS222 (installed hermes IOS 222[37+38]v4 from the guide you followed)
Hermes v4 is also needed for HDD in Fat32 or NTFS, for that you need to select Hermes as main IOS in the preferences and reboot the loader.

For information, cIOSx v19 let the user choose which IOS to use as base for patching before installing to slot 249 and 250.
Possible IOSs:
IOS37-64-v3869.wad -> Instruments.
IOS38-64-v3867.wad -> Same as previous cIOSs, Stable
IOS57-64-v5661.wad -> Works best with newer games
IOS60-64-v6174.wad -> Better Network Support
IOS70-64-v6687.wad -> SD(HC) Improvements

Note: You will need the newest Wad manager to let it work with cIOSs that use bases other than 38.
So, use ISO250 (it has 38 as base), or install v17, it's easier.

I hope it helped, let me know if you need something else.

Thanks Cyan, that was a lot of help though some more clarification as to what to do next would be nice. Via that guide I have these cIOS's installed:

Code:
cIOS202[38+60]-v4
cIOS222[38+37]-v4
cIOS223[38]-v4
cIOS249[38]-v19
cIOS250[57]-v19
IOS70-64-v6687[TB+ES_diV+NAND]

Which IOS's should I uninstall and install next to get the best compatibility for r938?

never uninstall a IOS (it could remove important shared component, and brick the Wii).
Just install over the old one if you need to change the version.

From what is installed :
cIOS 202 [38+60] is good, it's used to allow access to USB2.0 (Media player WiiMC, emulators, etc.)
cIOS 222 [37+38] (Hermes v4) is good too, and you will need it for few games (or for all of the games instead of IOS249, if the HDD use a FAT32 or NTFS partition instead of WBFS)
cIOS223 [38] is usually not needed (you'll never use it)
cIOS 249 [38] might be good, as it's based on 38 and not on 57, so maybe USBloader GX will work (I never tested it, just try, It can't brick your wii. the more it can do is black screen/code dump/freeze etc.)
cIOS 250 [57] Some newer games may work better with this one as it has USB2.0 too (I think) (but not supported by USBloaderGX)

If USBloaderGX is not working fine with your current setup, run cIOS38 v17 installer.
That's the only thing you will need to do.

Then, all you'll need to do is configure the loader properly, each game needs it's own preferences.
if a game is not working, read the released game's topic, it's usually explained what to do.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask and I did do a search but I got over 700 pages the first time and when I reworded my search phrase I still got over 350 pages...I'm using the latest rev of usb loader but I can't get the install option to work. I was under the assumption that you loaded a cd and launched usb loader and hit install. That would then start ripping the game from disc to your external HD. When I do that, it just goes back to my normal screen which is showing me the games on my HD. Anyone help please? I've checked the youtube videos and can't find this unlock feature that the videos show. Also the videos look like they're made using an older version of usb loader as the screenshots don't match up to what mine looks like?

PS. I know I posted this in another thread but you can't delete your posts here it would appear. I did apologise for this on the other thread as well. Sorry for this, it wasn't intentional so no flammage please

The install button is broken in the latest releases. Just start USB Loader GX and then put in the game disc. The install screen will pop up automatically and the installation will work this way.

Stupid question but I'm asking just to make sure. With the new release of Hackmii 0.7, which will allow an upgrade to 3.4 system, HBC & Bootmi will now work. Will upgrading to 3.4 adversely affect USBloader GX? Even after I use the new Hackmii? Or did 3.4 even break USBloader at all?

I just want to upgrade Hackmii and thus to 3.4 but not break USBloaderGX.

hackmii, bootmii, or System menu 4.3 have nothing to do with the loader.
The loader is only relying on cIOS249 or cIOS22x etc.
Just be sure to verify the presence of (or reinstall) your cIOS, don't use the updated IOS from nintendo.

For those who already tried Arc Rise Fantasia, which cIOS version did you use ?
did you try hermes 37+38 ?
cIOSx[57] ? (with r922-929)

I just came home, I'll extract and test it (with english voices first, I want to be sure the english works well and it's not the undub which is making it freeze)
I'll try with 249rev17 and hermes v4.

it won't even let me select 57 it doesn't show up in the select cios menu in game settings.

the game WILL freeze when you get to jada and have to fight the group of skeletons at the entrance gate.

so i have to update to rev19 than?
great...

I'm not entirely certain, but I read on another forum that many people who downloaded ARF with it having the filename "ws_arf_ntsc", may have gotten a bad rip of the game.

He also reported that after trying to play it from a file uploaded by another user, he had no problems.

yes, that's what I meant, cIOSx [based on IOS57] installed as 249 or 250.
Not to load IOS57 from GX.

So, maybe the game need the based 57 to work correctly. that's a progress

I just start playing (with cIOSrev17), I'm at the first town. I hope I will pass the skeleton soon.

Maybe we should discuss it in the game's topic, user looking for info might look there.

PS : voices are not THAT bad for the moment.
I'm more chocked about the characters non expression and movements in the intro sequence...

Edit :
I report here too (I reported in the ARF topic).
cIOS r17 Freeze
Hermes cIOS[37+38]v4 Freeze
cIOS r19 [57] Freeze (but I got an error with GX when launching the game : "WBFS error: bad Magic")

Anyone else getting this "bad magic" error when loading from WBFS partition ?

i'm still on rev17 too and it freezes in Jada when the town gets attacked you make your way to the front gate and there's this guy fighting skeletons you decide to help him THAT'S when it just freezes. i was at lvl 8 by than i was busy grinding to lvl up my magic so it took me a while to discover it. but you can run straight to the next town and you'll see it pretty fast. dunno if you'll be able to fight the skeletons easy though i was slicing them down at lvl 8
