Test05 :

I just tried these out since I am having the same issue of it not recognizing my hard drive anymore after it did last month (and every other app including Nintendont does), and none of the test files worked to load the hard drive. All of them timed out after the 20 seconds.

time out and freeze at initializing usb ?

if not even test01 works, there's a problem on my side...
I only compiled r1218 with clean ppc and libogc, which should work fine.

Could someone compile them for me?
first, do r1218 for test01 and compile it.

if it works, for test 2 and 3, just replace the file with the one from the specified revision in the text file.

Okay, I went back and tried r1218 and that didn't work either. For what it's worth, CFG and WiiFlow aren't working either, even though I played Galaxy recently and it just stopped working.

ah, so it's maybe not these specific builds.
you have another issue.

which cIOS are you using?
did you have any working USBLoader? wich one, which version?
it stopped working, just like that? nothing done and it stopped?

I was using d2x-v10beta53-alt-vWii, and I just tried switching today to d2x-v10beta52-vWii, but that didn't help. I was using CFG USB Loader v70r78 a few weeks ago to play Galaxy and played through DKCR from the disk. I picked up a Gamecube Adapter, so I've been playing Sunshine for the past couple weeks and decided recently to go back and finish Galaxy to find that it didn't work. So that's been the only change from an otherwise working setup. I can still launch apps and play using emulators (just played SMB3 this morning) and obviously Nintendont works.

can you launch USBLoaderGX without HDD connected? (press B to skip HDD mounting)
it should work, it's just to check if the issue is the cIOS or the HDD, or anything else.

2nd test, try to connect the HDD when you see the countdown

be sure to plug it in port0 (at the back top on WiiU)

Yeah USBLoaderGX just goes into channel mode when I remove it / cancel it / let it time out. Nothing changes if I connect it when I see the countdown. For what it's worth, it doesn't blink like it's being accessed.

you don't have other device connected? (like the gamecube controller adapter on the front ports maybe)
try on a Wii if you have one. just try different things to narrow the issue (different drive, different loader, cIOS, port, console, etc.)

Nope, I unplugged the adapter when I first suspected it would be the cause, no change. It works on the Wii.

Current cIOS setup
vIOS249[56]: d2x-v10beta52
vIOS250[57]: d2x-v10beta52
vIOS251[58]: d2x-v10beta52

Test 1 (provided meta.xml)
WD My Passport Essential USB 2.0: OK
WD My Passport Ultra USB 3.0: OK

Test 1 (alternate meta.xml)
WD My Passport Essential USB 2.0: OK
WD My Passport Ultra USB 3.0: OK

Test 2
WD My Passport Essential USB 2.0: OK
WD My Passport Ultra USB 3.0: FAILED

Test 3
WD My Passport Essential USB 2.0: OK
WD My Passport Ultra USB 3.0: OK

Test 4
WD My Passport Essential USB 2.0: OK
WD My Passport Ultra USB 3.0: FAILED

Test 5
WD My Passport Essential USB 2.0: OK
WD My Passport Ultra USB 3.0: FAILED

Two things of note, I would boot USB Loader GX without any HD attached so it could created a fresh cfg file. I would then power down and try the first drive.
Also in no case did I actually see the contents of the hard drive, rather a blank list that appeared like there were files there (I can attach a screenshot if you want)

Thank you for the results :)
it's helpful, but I thought test4 would work. it's based off r1217 launching process, the official release of r1217 works fine?
I will investigate it and make a new test version later.

you don't need to report your full cIOS setup.
1. Only one slot is used at the same time, other slots have no effect on the compatibility.
2. you don't even tell which slot you are using (I suppose 249)
Only report the slot 249 if it's the default you are using.

You don't see the content, you mean no games are listed in the loader?
I don't understand what you mean by "blank list like there were files", you mean in the loader's main interface?
Maybe your screenshot will be useful. Sorry, sometime I don't understand a lot :P

Yes, I always use slot 249.

So I booted up Test 5 (as it was still on my SD card) with my USB 2.0 hard drive tonight and everything looked normal. I'll go back to an earlier test version when I get a minute and get a picture of what I was seeing.

so, no info if r1217 works fine?
Did you retry test4? if r1217 works, test4 should work.
if 1217 works and test4 doesn't, then it's not related to the startup process.

I'm not sure what to do now.

Edit:
62 download per beta test version!
1 user report !

Really, thank you guys. that's very useful.
If you don't intend to help, don't download it.
beta doesn't mean it's the latest, better, and that you miss features if you don't use it. In this case it's even a downgrade, what the purpose of downloading it if it's not to help? u_u

I'll provide beta in private for users who want to help.

r1217
WD My Passport Essential USB 2.0: OK
WD My Passport Ultra USB 3.0: FAILED

Test 4 (Re-Test)
WD My Passport Essential USB 2.0: OK
WD My Passport Ultra USB 3.0: FAILED

NOTE: I was able to duplicate the issue where I was not able to see the contents of the drive. This happened with BOTH r1217 and Test 4.

So, if 1217 doesn't work, the issue is not starting at 1219...
that's why there's no evidence of the problem by checking the sources between 1218 and 1219 (or 1229/1230).
r1218 is working fine because it's using ONLY the IOS58 at launch. No cIOS are used. So it's the exception from all the non working revisions.

Could you check older revision to find the real first revision with the HDD detection issue?
start with v3.0 r1180, if it works then it's great :)
then test midway revision (like r1200) and narrow the issue.

If 1180 doesn't work, then I don't know how to fix it.
it's probably a cIOS issue, using IOS58 instead of cIOS at launch should help. you can set launch IOS in meta.xml

I see what you mean about "not seeing the content".
It looks like a font issue, or a game's title missing.
The loader sees and loads the HDD content correctly, but doesn't display the titles.

You say you could duplicate it. Is there a method to duplicate it or is it random?

Could you give me a list of which specific versions you want me to test? Testing them all could take a very long time and I'm pretty sure I'm going to blow up my Wii U with having to turn it off and on so much

The earliest version I see is r1188 on the download site.

that's why I said to test "midway".

r1180 is the 3.0 official release (inside the "all in one package 249").

test :
1180 if it works, test one in the middle between working 1180 and non working 1217 --> r1200
if r1200 works, test one in the middle between working 1200 and non working 1217 --> 1210
if r1200 doesn't work, test one in the middle between working 1180 and non working 1200 --> r1190

etc.

You have one week to do the tests :P

So this is interesting (at least to me, you might very well tell me I'm an idiot). I did a little different testing this time, cheating a little bit. This time I would do the following:
1. Delete the contents in the usbloader_gx folder on the SD card and put in the version listed.
2. Boot up ULGX once WITHOUT the hard drive attached.
3. Back out of ULGX to the HBC. Plug in the hard drive and launch ULGX.
4. After it would load I would back out of ULGX to the HBC, eject the SD card and unplug the hard drive and repeat the steps 1-3.
r1180
WD My Passport Ultra USB 3.0: OK

r1200
WD My Passport Ultra USB 3.0: OK

r1209
WD My Passport Ultra USB 3.0: OK

r1217
WD My Passport Ultra USB 3.0: OK

Notice this time r1217 did in fact boot ok.

So then I went back to my original method of testing which I would actually turn off the Wii U at step 3 and plug the hard drive in. In this case r1217 froze at the 'initialize USB device' screen.

Does this tell you anything?

Also, I did see the issue with the font/game title issue again with these builds, but I realized if I scrolled down they are in fact there, but only the Wii stuff, no GC or EmuNand stuff. So I'm thinking it's trying to list something that doesn't exist. In any case, minor issue, I can look into that another time.
