Hello, i'm new to this forum, i hope i won't do nothing wrong !

So, i recently softmodded my old European (PAL / French) Wii, wich was already modified with a chip (It allowed to read unofficials games), i followed the steps of the CompleteSoftmodeGuide and have installed Homebrew, USB Loader GX and WiiFlow.

I'm using a 150Gb HDD, formated in FAT32, and using the Wii Backup Manager Software to add my games, so far i've only added Mario Party 9.

But when i launch Usb Loader GX, the countdown freeze at exactly 11seconds...
When i try with WiiFlow, I can launch Mario Party 9 but i only got a black screen.
I've tried to use Pimpmywii, it solved some problems, apparently, but the case is always the exact same.

Thank you for your help :)

Never use Pimp my Wii, people call it "Brick my Wii" for a reason.

Looks fine.
You are plugging the HDD in the bottom port (or closest to the side with the rubber feet) right?
Does USB Loader GX boot when the HDD is disconnected (I assume it will but just making sure)?
I think there is a way to set USB Loader GX to use IOS58 (it will still use IOS249 for booting games though), that may help troubleshoot why it's not working with your drive.
@Cyan can you be of any help?

The USB was in the right port and USB loader seems to work just fine without the HDD
And how can i do the IOS58 thing ?

Also, i tried to install new games to test with on my HDD, and WiiFlow only shows Mario Party 9 ?
I wonder if it's the fault of the HDD...

I'm not sure, that's why I pinged Cyan, I know he's helped out other people in similar situations (he's one of the USB Loader GX devs)
I don't really know what's wrong, but it could simply be a compatibility issue with your drive.
See if your drive is on this list: https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/USB_Devices_Compatibility_List

It could just be the enclosure. That's more important than the drive in it. I can't find any info on that one but if it has any options like power saving or encryption try disabling them.

If you mean a USB flash drive you can try it but they generally seem less than satisfactory.

Well it doesn't seem to have this kind of options, but how or where can i found it ?

So, i just tried with a 32Go USB key, and it worked very well, the games loaded perfectly, and USB Loader GX no longer freezes.
I guess the problem was the HDD :/
Thanks for the help :)

But should I fill the wiki about my HDD to warn the others ?
How can i do this ?

like GreyWolf said, its probably your enclosure.
Don't report your HDD unless you have tried a few different enclosures and all of them don't work.
It would be ideal if you can burrow or buy some enclosures that can be returned to test it out.
Start with cheap ones as i THINK they may not be built with unnecessary "advance" functions.
I have a few buffalo and hitachi enclosures and 3 different brands of HDDs including WD, but "unfortunately" none of them (tried with different combinations) fails

  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.
  • Veho @ Veho:
There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
