This might be a silly question but would there be any downside to keeping my Wii settings at 16:9 wide-screen, then forcing 4:3 in USB Loader GX for things like emulators and GameCube games?

I don't want to mess up any pixel scaling and such. Does this setting basically mimic the Wii display setting or is there something else going on?

If you do not want to "mess any pixel scaling" then leave everything at 4:3, because the Wii, like other pre HD Systems, are not doing real Widescreen, but Anamorphic Widescreen, which basically squashes the elements to be shown to later let the TV stretch the picture to 16:9. There's the exact amount of pixels by setting the Wii in in16:9 as it is in 4:3, you just make the system do some trickery, losing picture quality in the process, specially 2D elements and text.

I personally rather do the opposite, set the system at 4:3 and then configure the very few Wii games that might need 16:9 have that forced on USB Loader GX. But of course, do what you're more comfortable with.
