I have a WD My Passport 500gb USB Drive that I used on my WII for backups that I own but when I try to use it on the WII U for the same purpose the WII U dose not find it. I have reformatted it, to a WBFS drive couple of time still dosen't find it. I pluf it in the top usb porrt in the back with WII U off like it says, Any ideas what I could be doing wrong. and if it the drive what kind do you guys suggest getting that will work? Thanks in advance Copesnuffdss

Do you have D2X-ALT vWii installed to Slot249?

if you use the non ALT one, the drive can only be in bottom port (USB0) and needs to be plugged in before loading any homebrew that accesses the drive.
also, use NTFS rather then WBFS.

use D2X-ALT for vWii (install base58 to Slot249)
use the new WiiFlow loader that works on vWii
set WiiFlow to read from USB when asked what device your games are on.

It could also be that the drive is not getting enough power to run right.
try using a "Y" cable to power it then use both back ports for the "Y" cable.

I used d2x-v10-beta53-alt-vWii and my 16gb sandisk thumbdrives work just not the USB HDD. Games load from Thumbdrive but WIIFLOW says that no game partion is found when USB HDD is plugged in.

So the NTFS Format is better is there a link or somewhere you can send me for info and I use WII Back UP Manger will it work on NTFS thanks again

The WD My Passport 500gb USB Drive is without power supply.
there are more people with usb drive problems that provide power trough usb. (that worked on the normal wii fine)

Thats what I read somewhere else, I just didnt Understand with the thumbdrives working

I cant get my 2tb WD external to work either, it has an external power source, and i make sure the drive completely spins up before i launch Wii Flow. No matter what USB port i use, it doesn't show up.

WiiU doesn't have enough power to run a usb powered HDD,so you need to buy a Y Cable USB, that's the only way you can get it to work. You're going to need something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200736

as for the 2TB HDD, did you format it to the Wii format HDD? I don't think you can do it via vWii so you're going to need to use a WBFS (i think that's what it was called), on the PC and format it.

My harde drive did not work either in the beginning.
But the flashcard did.
After i deleted the partition from windows disk management, i formatted it again to wbfs with wbfs manager and uploaded new games to it and it works now.
Still in wiiflow it misses some games, but maybee that has to do something with that it supports only ios58 games.

That is blatently false. The WiiU can power USB drives just fine. I havemine doing it now.Just not hacked or homebrewed. -Some- drives require more power than others, and thus wll need the Y cable.
I'll take Nintendo's word over anyone else's in this regard. If the HDD isn't getting enough power, it might work, but when it comes time to actually write data, there may be a possibility of data corruption.

Who the crap still uses WBFS over FAT32 or NTFS?

Don`t care realy.
I am using a hard-drive docking station and a normal pc drive.
I have tried a couple of things but it did not show up in wiiflow.
After i formatted it to wbfs it did.

i connect hd with usb cable of latpop type, with both spin connect and plugged in wi u. So all drives works for me. Excuse my bad english
