Hello everyone, I have some questions about the HWFly and the included USB adapters. These adapters often seem to differ from one another. See the photos. I may have mixed them up. Isn’t it possible to tell just by looking at the HWFly chip which way the USB adapter has to be plugged in? I mean regardless of the “UP” marking. If the “UP” label weren’t printed on it, wouldn’t you be able to tell by eye or under a microscope?

And why does a USB adapter get damaged when it’s connected the wrong way? It only has contacts on one side, doesn’t it?!

Unfortunately, the manufacturer has made it so that you can’t be completely sure even with the “UP” marking. The adapters differ in what is considered the top side, and the socket is mounted on opposite sides depending on the adapter.

Can someone shed some light on this?

There are 2 types of connectors with top and bottom connection.
Mixing the USB adapter doesn't matter if you made the 'UP' label face up.
The contacts will be on the other side so nothing is making any contact.

I would be careful connecting it with the 'UP' label downwards, because in that case the connections are probably mirrored.

Look at your HWFly board to see if you have a top or bottom connector :
