Homebrew Updating rxtools emunand n3ds help

I've done a little bit of searching around and I've seen that just doing the system update on rxtools emunand would bring it to FW 9.5 but I've also seen that doing this can brick? I am on a n3dsXL on FW 9.2 and I want to update to 9.5 on my emunand so I can play Xenoblade Chronicles 3D since it requires at least FW 9.4 to work. I've also seen that using sysupdater to update to 9.5 will work but its already iffy on the n3ds so what are my other choices? What's the correct way to update my emundand to 9.5?

get 9.5 update for your region, make sure it's for N3ds.. put updates folder on sd

install sysupdater cia in emunand and run it, press 'a'

btw, mine black screened on initial reboot, but was fine when restarted from powering off
