I have a USA N3DS running Luma and I have a Japanese game that has an update patch available. (There is no english translation patch, so this game is 100% vanilla.) I am able to download the update via prompt when I try to start the game, but the 3DS keeps saying there's an update available for the game. I'm assuming it's downloading the update, but not installing it. Any ideas? Since there is no english translation patch for this game; finding any .cias for it, (especially the update patch), is extremely difficult.

Is the game updated via an update pack (as all games that are also available in a physical version), or by redownloading it?

If you are sure the download goes through, it may be a bad ticket issue (especially if the update/game was installed from unclean sources, such as rebuilt cias or gamecard conversions, which don't put a valid titlekey in the ticket)

You could also check the titlekey site for the update, they're posted there too (or, for update-pack games, just ask someone with a Japanese console to dump it for you!)

(Post the titleid of the game, knowing what title you're talking about is very useful)

The title in question is the 3DS remake of Dragon Quest Monsters 2. (Not to be confused with Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2.) I'm pretty sure it's a download pack.

Is this the game?

Do you get the update nag when launching the game? Does pressing (Y) button allows the update to go through?

If that fails, you can try updating through freeShop should that title's update be available in their cache.

Lastly, there is a v1.1 update in cia format found at that iso site. You have to find it yourself. It may not be up to date.
