Hi guys,

I've read a couple of posts and to not get confused anymore i decided to ask you directrly.

I'm on 5.50 GenD3 (permanent via pandora battery a coupole years ago) with my trusty old Fat PSP. And now i'd like to install the newest 6.61 pro cfw.
If i understood correctly i should use hellcats recovery flasher to go back to 5.00 OFW->6.61OFW->6.61ProCFW. Is that correct? I don't wanna (soft-)brick my unit.
The method of upgrading from 5.50 GenD3 directly to 6.61OFW->6.61CFW has a risk of bricking and is not recommended, right?

Thanks in advance. Best,
Chris

Just a quick update: going from 5.50 GenD3 to ofw 6.61 and then to 661 Pro worked perfectly. Performed this on 3 PSPs so it's safe to say it works this way.

Mods can close, thx

Hey,

I have exact cfw as you did on my 2000 and I want to update it to infinity cfw too.

did you update directyly to the 6.61 ofw or did you do recovery flasher first?

Thanks

No need to use an homebrew updater if you use a proper CIPL CFW unless you have a classic one that makes it hard to update in the first place :)

When I bought my PSP, it already had CFW in it and all the CFW files weren't there when I got it.

And I'm pretty new to the PSP scene, what's CIPL CFW? because I'm not sure what CFW that's in my PSP right now.

what's CIPL CFW?
Long discussion if I wanted to use all proper terminology but in short CIPL (custom IPL) means unofficial, fakesigned* bootloader - what all traditional CFWs use (others were normally called LCFWs and can't autoboot unless combined with a "perma patch" or Infinity)

* Well I said it could be long - since about 2018 a proper signer was made, thanks mathieulh and geohot & friends who hacked the PS3, which means "new CIPL" can work on more consoles than "pandora compatible" 1000s and early 2000s (a misleading definition - see https://consolemods.org/wiki/PSP:Pandora_Battery), but the popular PRO and ME CFWs don't support it yet, only the newcomer ARK, etc etc etc

If you're on GEN and it autoboots it's pretty much certainly a full, classic-CIPL-based CFW :)
