SMD is an entirely different format, technically it comes under the DSE format family and though some work has been done it is not anywhere near as much as you can do for SDAT.

SMD is indeed the sequenced format for that family but I am not aware of anything to convert to midi. It might since have happened on some of the pokemon forums which I don't follow as that is the main place it is seen (though hardly the only game franchise to use it) but I would like to believe it would have been shared.
