I was successful in getting the Homebrew Channel installed (I think v1.01 because it asked me to update to v1.03 but I declined). I used the offline method mentioned here and I skipped steps A-B because I think I had already done it. But BootMii is still in beta mode (?) so I'm not going to bother installing it. I've got Preloader and I won't do anything extreme. Now to get some stuff on it.

Thanks anyway though!

P.S. The guide is a bit vague but eventually you will figure it out.

P.S.S. I upgraded to 4.0 and when I used the SD card (the same one with the same files from the guide) in the new SD channel, it just froze. I'm assuming that is supposed to happen because there are files there which shouldn't be. Am I correct in saying this?

I think that even in the beta of bootmii, it is still safer and more reliable than any other brick protection software. It was written by the team that made the HBC to begin with, and that prompt to update to HBC 1.0.3 will also take you to the hackmii installer where you can install bootmii as well. They are already confident in it enough to have it automatically prompt HBC users to update and install bootmii along with an updated HBC, so you shouldn't have any fears in installing it because of the beta tag still on it.

And to the freezing thing, that's, as I said to the last two people I quoted in that other post, because you still have the bannerbomb file on your sd card. So you have to go to the private folder on your card and delete the title that corresponds to what bannerbomb was. (If you didn't put any other game saves or vc games/wiiware games on your sd card you should be able to delete the folder entirely.)

Cool. So, when I'm in the HBC and it prompts me for the update, it'll also let me install BootMii? Saves time for sure.

Yea it just opens up the hackmii installer which at first will tell you what you can install on your wii, basically whether or not you can install bootmii as both boot2 and as IOS or only as one variant (IOS). boot2 is the important one that provides the brick protection, and the IOS version will let you load bootmii from the HBC.

I just tried to install v1.03 and BootMii through the HBC but I'm pretty sure it was my router's fault. When I accepted the download, it got to 1% (of 1430kb) and then it stopped (Download Error), this happened twice. I'll have to try again tomorrow since my router kind of works, especially if I can sometimes play online and when there is a prompt to update.

Attempt the offline method instead. It works perfectly. But I'm not completely sure though. There might be duplicate files on your Wii if you repeat the installation through the offline method (and it'll just be a mess).

But, I've done the offline method, and it works perfectly. No errors, no issues, nothing.

LOL i got it to work on my friends until step 10. it say about IOS35-64-v1042.wad install error...Does this really matter? or i gotta get that program and do step 10 again?

when i got that error i decided to go ahead. step 11 was tricky. i didnt understand what u mean by WAD 1-18.

11) Run WAD-Manager_v1.4 again. Choose IOS249 and install WADs 01-18. If WAD Manager freezes during installation just try again from the WAD it froze on.

i know its download on sd slot.. but where is next? install wad 1-18 is what?

I would imagine it does matter. But I don't exactly remember what it does. Although, do attempt to re-try that step (from 10).
It worked for me, so it should for you too.

I haven't touched my Wii in a long time, or kept up with Wii hacking related stuff. So far I've followed the guide, online version, until (and including) step 4, but before I began following the guide I installed preloader 0.29 (the one included as step 6). I didn't want to brick my Wii and figured it would be a good thing to install. I have not installed BootMii or anything else. If it's relevant, my Wii is chipped and the chip is running OpenWii 3.4.

But reading the first part of the thread, I'm not sure if going through with step 5 (IOS 60 installer/patcher) is safe after installing preloader (which is why it was a step after, I suppose). Or can I just run the IOS 60 installer without worry?

As I said, I haven't kept up with Wii hacking so I'm really insecure as to what all these different things do, just did a quick read through before I began with the update. Might've been stupid. I just wanted 4.0E, though it seems there's quite a lot of fun that can be done with a Wii that I wasn't previously aware of.

When I move an installed wad into the SD it moves, but it says error when I try to play it. I think it is becuase when I run the ios60 installer it fails to patch ios60, the message looks like this [ES_AddContentStart(00000001000003, 0) Failed: -1017]
And then it tells me it fails and doesn't give me an option to install shop channel.
I'm running a 4.0U

Anytitle deleter. delete all IOS above 37.
format wii system memory.
format SD card.

if you get a message that says the system menu is corrupt just boot to preloader and reinstall

you can get cios60.wad from the offline guide

Wait WHAT? Won't deleting IOS60 while being on 4.0 pretty much perma brick a Wii? And I've never heard of formatting hacked Wii's bringing about any good.

Edit: Much like this guy: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=163...p;#entry2073543

Wouldn't it be safer to just run NANDclean or something to get rid of preloader hacks, then run IOS downgrader and cIOS downgrader to get back to a normal 3.2, and then just use anytitle deleter to delete only IOS249 and the HAXX ticket for the HBC?

I proceeded with step 5 and installed and patched IOS60 (but declined IOS61 and Shop channel). It went fine. Though it did remove preloader! I tried to start it by holding reset which worked before, without success. Tried it twice, to make sure. So I installed preloader once again, and the installer informed me that I did not have preloader installed.

Does installing preloader neutralize whatever changes the IOS60 installer and patcher did? It certainly worked the other way around.

Considering the guide tells you to install preloader right after running the IOS60 patcher, it shouldn't do anything to render the patch useless.

I realize the guide says so, but the guide is not written by an infallible being.

Again though, I don't know about Wii hacking, I'm merely asking. Because it does not seem all that unlikely, depending on how preloader installs itself. (From what I understand, it installs itself "in IOS60", whatever that means, I do not know what IOS is! And I figured it might overwrite something from the other IOS60 patcher. But, don't talk about what you don't know could certainly be applied to my ramblings.)

I think what preloader does is just patches whatever IOS60 is there already in order to have it make it load preloader instead of the system menu. That's why the guide for installing CIOSCORP also has you install a different IOS60bf or something, which bricks your Wii until you reinstall preloader again so it can patch that new IOS60 to work with it again.

There would be no reason to tell people to install something involving IOS60 and then do something that makes that install useless. So I'm pretty sure preloader will just add something to the new IOS60 on top of what's there already or something, and you can confirm the patch still works by just installing preloader and then trying to install a wad of a vc game and moving it to the sd card menu and see if it works from there. As long as that patch is still there it should work.

Install WADs 1 through 18. You know, install 1, then 2, then 3...

I am trying the offline method since my niece updated her wii to 4.0u already, is it supposed to be a black screen with red, yellow, and white text?

Also I can't complete step 5 or 6 because it says in read under clearing bss in red to disconnect expansions to avoid problems and i already have and so i let it sit there for a while and it now says "It seems to me that you are a pirate. bye... (press HOME to exit)" what do I need to do?

Hello!

I got my new wii (LU70)

And I wanted to try this.

I started with Online Meathod,
I had HBC, and 3.2U Menu. but no cIOS (the Guide said cIOS or Menu below 3.2)

Everything went fine until the IOS60 Updater. I get that same error mentioned on page 69. So should I just install cIOS60 from WAD Mangager? I thought if IOS60 went unpatched, it corrupts the system.

Just to clarify, I have no hombrew besides HBC, and the stuff from steps 1-6 on online meathod. No Preloader or BootMii
