A) Run CMDVDX35 and choose Downgrade IOS35. It might say network error just ignore it and choose Exit

B) Run WAD Manager choose IOS35 and install IOS35-64-v1040.wad then restart

----------------------------------------

9) If you do not have cIOS installed yet Run WAD-Manager_v1.4 choose IOS35 and install cios_fix.wad then restart

10) Run cIOS36_rev10-Installer and choose WAD Installation

11) Run WAD-Manager_v1.4 again. Choose IOS249 and install WADs 01-18

i have a 4.0U wii and i have installed and i have a HBC from long ago and ive installed this from the offline guide

it keeps giving me a black screen even tho i did the ios30 wad install then system menu plus it cuts off every 5 wads...

Note:- i just got Wirless internet so am i able to use the online guide????

i think might be a Problem:-
im in palastine (a country outside the U.S.A) and i have a 4.0U wii and i want to keep it at 4.0U, any chance it will change any thing in the region or brick?

and will it work because im on 4.0U not a 3.2U (which is my goal)

powser:
"If you already have the Homebrew Channel you may skip steps 4-8 follow steps A-B
Otherwise continue with 4-8 and skip A-B"
if you have hbc and cios you may skip steps 4-9 and follow A-B

Im on 3.2E atm and am using StarFall, do i need to set all the options within StarFall back to default before doing the steps in this guide, or doesnt it matter??
it shouldnt be a problem but thats always a good idea. you can also run Hacks Remover and Shared2Clean to remove hacks

ive updated to 4.0 now but becoz HDC v.102 doesnt support SDHC, i wnt to downgrade HBC back to 1.01. Can i do this by just running the 1.01 installer again, or how do i uninstall 1.02 1st?
you could try taking the homebrewchannel.wad from the offline pack and choosing "uninstall" on it and then reintall 1.01

Is there anything I can do to get the ability to play import retail games back? (4.0U wanting to play Japanese games).
easiest method is download GeckoOS for retail imports. Backup Loader Gamma for burned imports.

QUOTE(The Bishop @ May 21 2009, 09:33 AM) Got this running now question is tho i did the IOS downgrader (step 2) and i saw nothing patch all it did was pop-up hit any button to restart your Wii has it done anything?
that just means they are already at the desired versions

Booting into Gecko OS every time I want to play a retail import is really annoying, and launching retail imports from the Gamma channel (which works) also sucks a lot compared to disc channel support.

There used to be a Starfall/Preloader option to skip region checks. Has that functionality been lost in the transition to 4.0?

Thanks for all your help!

OK have used this guide and have updated my Wii to 4.0 without any hitches, has also installed preinstaller for good measure...but i have a problem with one game, Williams Pinball Collection! As soon as i insert the disc into the Wii it starts loading it and then causes the Wii to freeze and crash, i have to power off to get the Wii working again, if i turn the Wii on with the disc in, it gets to the Health Warning screen but after i press 'A' to go to the Wii System Menu screen the Wii freezes on a black screen!, any ideas??

I updated successfully; however, preloader is not functioning as it should.

I didn't really test the others, but I know for a fact that the no wii menu bgm hack is not working for me. Any solutions?

I want to upgrade my friend's Wii to 4.0 when I go over next week. I'm aware it says that the offline works on Wii's without CIOS' installed, but would will it work to upgrade to 4.0u with the offline tutorial even though he has CIOS' installed already. I ask because he only has a slow dialup internet connection and we can't keep the phone tied up for long.

Assassda,

i want to do online installation but....

btw my wii updated HBC to 1.01

where do i put files on sd card?

I formated sd card, then i used winrar and clicked Extract to (file name)
and it made a folder of each so i added each folder into the apps folder
and then i went on the wii and it only showed ios60 only , so i went and
made the rest of files on my sd card on the root of my sd card and left
ios60 still there, i went on the wii and still same thing what should i do?

About to follow the offline method and have some questions:

1) Does the offline version install patched versions of IOS60 and IOS61 ?
2) If you already have HBC and don't want to install preloader, I presume I can stop after step 12 ?
3) If I have a modchip (Wiikey v1) I don't need to do the CIOSCORP stuff either ? The modchip will let me play backups via the disc channel ?

Share with you my story guys.

i'm on a korean wii anyregion modded to 3.2U.

I went ahread to use the offline guide, I refuse to use the online guide since the offline includes prelaoader installing immediately after systemmenu, which I think is important for brick protection.

Anyway I really think most of the steps are useless (for upgrading), but I did exactly as instructed anyway.. (ios35 patch, wads 1-18 blah) although I THINK that all I needed was cIOS60, systemmenuv417 and preloader. But I did as instructed anyway and now have a working 4.0U upgraded from a 3.2U Korean Wii

Just for the record, my previous 3.2U already had cIOS and Preloader 0.29 installed.

I highly recommend this guide and humbly thank assassda for writing it as well as providing countless help thruout this thread. I also extend my thanks to the various helpers in this thread. Thanks a lot, guys!!

Went through the offline process - all very quick and easy. I now have bootmii set to preset to the systemmenu which (before I set the autoboot function) was then picked up by preloader ... and now get to a 4.0E system menu within about 5 seconds.

One problem I have .... with just the bootmii folder and the files required by this update tutorial on the SD card, if I go to the SD menu then (first time I tried it) I get the messages and then the "connecting witth SD card" message but then the menu hangs. The only way to get out of it is to pull the power cable out the back of the wii !!! Anyone else get this problem ?

i have a question whats the point of installing the ios 1-18 dont we already have those before upgrading ?

followed this guide so far but when using the 4 updater, it gets to downloading system menu but gives an error -1

any ideas?

tottoritoro: if you followed this guide you would see that all the other hacks are there on 4.0

if youre on 3.2 check the lastes hacks.ini on wiibrew

Try launching through Gamma Loader. did you use the online guide or offline?

Chibicon: reinstall preloader. did you follow this guide? this isnt really a general help thread

sure that makes it easier just skip the cios_fix step
I will update the first post to mention which posts you can skip if you have cios already

READ THE FAQ
you have to rename them to boot.dol J:\apps\cmdvd\boot.dol J:\apps\wadman\boot.dol

it installs cios60 and normal ios61 (61 is just the shop 60 lets you use the sd channel). i highly recommend preloader for the offline installation because it is slightly more risky to deal with WADs but you may skip installing preloader if you wish. yes your modchip will still function
try formatting your SD card. my guide doesnt mention bootmii ...

-Unknown-: youre welcome

WitoRIT92: "i have a question whats the point of installing the ios 1-18 dont we already have those before upgrading ?"

they are the trucha bugged old versions... true its optional besides IOS36 but its recommended

im glad it worked! this guide really does work on all Wiis.

Hey guys, I want to upgrade my Wii using this method/tutorial, but I have a quick question.

I have previously installed CIOSes (the ones used for the dual 0.3/0.1 backup loader method) and I was wondering if I need to get rid of them before proceeding with this guide?

Thanks!

try formatting your SD card. my guide doesnt mention bootmii ...

I know your guide doesn't mention bootmii but I thought it was sensible to install it and backup the nand before going through the guide.

Everything seems fine apart from the SD card hanging thing. I will, as suggested, trying formatting the card and see if that helps.

Does the SD card have to be FAT or FAT32 ?

A friend with a "clean" wii is keen to get the trucha bug IOS and full 4.0 functionality on their 4.0 wii (which currently doesn't have HBC or any cIOS installed).

Presumably the offline method of this will let them do this ?

So I followed this whole guide, thank you by the way, and my system is now up to date at 4.0 and everything seems to be working.

I completed all the way to step 5.

I did not install preloader as I wasn't sure what it was or if it was needed (I have a wiikey and am not using any softmods or loaders).

So I am not having any issues to speak of, but when I went to play punchout today it asked me to update my system files. I didn't and instead loaded it from Gecko to avoid the update process.

My question is shouldn't it see that it is up to date at system 4.0 and not think it needs an update still from the disc? Or is that because some of the files are patched that it wants to still update it? Would preloader fix this, by installing that and checking the "skip disc update check"?

I also assume it is not safe to run the update on the disc, is that correct?

Thanks for your help.
