If I previously used the Ultimate 4.0 Guide to safely upgrade to 4.0 from 3.4, am I okay to update directly to 4.1 or is there something special I have to do? It seems like nothing changed in the directions except instead of updating to 4.0 it now says to update to 4.1...

same here do we just install the 4.1 sysmenu wad as the steps have already been done to install 4.0

When doing step 6 in the online downgrade/upgrade.
>Trucha Bug Restorer and choose "IOS36" and pick "Downgrade IOS15"

when i chose to "Downgrade IOS15", i get an error

Could not open file: sd:/ios15-64-v266.wad
Could not open file: sd:/ios15-64-v266.wad.out.wad
Error reading IOS into memory
Downgrade failed
Press any button to exit...

im not sure what to do now

It shouldn't be saying that if you told it to download from NUS as it says in the online guide. You must have selected the offline option without having the proper IOS's on your SD card. Do it like this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltrd3oq8hPc...re=channel_page

Used the online guide last night to install 4.1 on a 3.2e. I had to run step 12 before 11 to get the 4.1 systemmenu to install but now on 4.1e everything working sweet. Thanks!!!!!

Same thing happened to me. Try a compatible hacks.ini. Put it on the root of your SD card over the original.

All Preloader hacks can be found here: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Preloader/hacks

To skip bootmii, rename the bootmii folder on the SD card (I changed it to bootmi, if I need it I just have to type an i and put it in the wii

be careful with the hacks.ini as you might brick your wii manuall changing values you dont no about

e.g.

USA 4.1 hacks.ini

CODE USA v4.1

[Replace Healthwarning with Backmenu]
version=449
offset=0x81656084
value=0x814093D4

CODE
EUR v4.1 hacks.ini

[Replace Healthwarning with Backmenu]
version=450
offset=0x81656344
value=0x814094D0

notice the different values and offsets

OFFLINE UPDATE

anyone wanting to update to 4.1 from the 4.0 guide just redownload the offline upgrade again run the prepare.bat, choose the correct SM you want and let it run. once done and all verified copy the contents of the sd folder to the root of a fat16/fat fresh farmated sd card.

then insert the sd card in the wii run wad manager 1.4 thru HBC and follow the guide from step 11 onwards.

11) Run WAD-Manager_v1.4 again. Choose IOS249 and install WADs 01-18. If WAD Manager freezes during installation just try again from the WAD it froze on.

12) While still in WAD Manager install SystemMenuv###.wad

13) It is highly recommended that you install preloader to prevent bricks. On the install screen press 1

14) Hold reset while powering on to access preloader and set preloader settings. In preloader hacks enable "Skip disc update check"

remember this is only needed if you already used the original 4.0 offline update,

i can confirm it working as i just updated 5 mins ago and still have full HBC/USB fuctionality

since i have bootmii installed on boot2 (currently on system menu 3.2U done via the twilight hack way back when with starfall and bootmii on boot2 and have my NAND backup) do I need preloader? I was thinking just bootmii and startpatch.

I have starfall on my system, do I need to uninstall that before doing all this?
Also, is my twilight hack going to remain or do I need to/will I need to use the bannerbomb version?
Also, I have ciosrev13a so do I need rev10?

thank you for the guide

Followed the guide, I stuck with 3.2 for so long as it worked perfectly for me and I only used Gamma. However the SD card support and the usb loaders gave me reason to update.

It looks like everything is working (have not tested yet) but the first thing I wanted to do was go into the wii settings to see my new system menu version and I can no longer go into my settings. I get greeted with a pop up window saying Opera browser could not reach a certain URL???

Also for the life of me I did not see "skip disk update check" as an option in the pre-loader. So I dont think I really even want the preloader bootmii is enough, so do I just uninstall pre-loader from the wad manager?

Edit used 4.1E (thinking English) but maybe I was supposed to use 4.1U lol for United States, and I was thinking something else and didnt see any documentation on that part.

Well atleast I figured it out quick and hope its a painless fix.

Guess I just install the new system menu again and try it and report back.

Update: Horrible news, I bricked my Wii and I can not find a way to recover currently. I'll have to start a thread and ask for help.

When I put the new system menu files on the SD card and installed it at reboot I just got black screen (after bootmii)

My very first thing to try was t recover from the nand backup I did on bootmii and it says unable to find/recover file for some reason (maybe I over wrote it when I dragged the new system menu files on my SD card??)

I CAN boot into bootmii, I can boot into the homebrew channel and read stuff from my SD card. So this is why I have hope to fix it.

Here is the main issue. I wanted to start the guide all over again and just make sure to install the correct system menu but... my wiimote refuses to pair no matter what I do and it seems the .wad manager program only works with the wiimote. I can not get it to respond to a gamecube controller at all.

With that in my way I have no idea how to start to fix this currently and I am open to ideas.

Being as positive as possible... I can still play games
biggrin.gif
I have to use a gamecube controller to load neogamma to boot a game disk, once in the game the controller pairs like normal.

I guess what I need now is some kind of application to force a system menu on my system that I can run from the homebrew channel or if its possible to restore using somebody elses nand backup from bootmii

I also wonder if this had anything to do with preloader .29 with bootmii I dont see why it should be used when I turned it from auto to system menu or what ever so I could bypass it thats when I had the problem. I think maybe preloader is trying to load the eurpe system menu or something even though now I installed the united states version?

Oh well I'll check back here and there to see if anybody has some help for me.

i used the previous version of the online update (which had the 4.0 update) on someones wii & i just used the ((Firmware-Updater_4.1)) from the newer online update to install 4.1 update,what i need to know is do i need to these 2 steps after i've updated the wii to 4.1 ?? :

12) Using Dop-IOS install IOS60 v6174 with Sig Hash Check.

13) Install preloader. On the install screen press 1

I found a updated version of the wad manager that supported gamecube controllers. I installed everything again from sctrach and its a no go, I also cant hold reset and get into the preloader.

I am almost positive now its the preloader giving me the brick and wouldnt you know the preloader also only supports wiimote it looks like. I cant get the installer to respond to the game cube controller.

Does anybody know a modified .29 preloader installer that works with gamecube or knows how to modifiy the current one?

If I install it over the top of itself it should go back to default settings and that may fix me up.

@vicious all u have to do to fix the brick is use wad manager to install a new sytem menu wad since u can get to hbc this should work. Please make sure it's in ur region and if you instal sytem menu 4.0 or higher plz install a patched ios 60 first

Tried to install 4.1U and just now 3.2U and just for the heck of it installed 4.1E again and just a black screen and I still cant pair my wiimote.

I have installed all the wads again, though once they are installed they are there untill you uninstall them correct?

I guess I have to make sure I installed the patched IOS60 again to be tripple sure.

If I hold reset and press power I see the grey screen for the preloader for just a second then it goes to a black screen, wont let me set the options but I guess maybe that has something to do with the corrupted system menu

preloader is gone if u installed over it with system
menu

Well not sure what to do guys.

Went ahead and tried system menu 449 again (4.1U) made sure to install cIOS60 first and it says it installed ok, but I still only get a black screen (technically no screen, my monitor says no signal) shortly after I exit bootmi and try to go into the system menu.

I am a bit limited with no ability to use some of the programs that require wiimote support. One thing that fails for me that is in the original guide is downgrading IOS15, other than that all the steps worked as they were supposed too.

I swear preloader is still there though even though you say its gone, I never saw a greyish background like that before, now that I have it set to autoboot into the system menu as that was the last change I did right before I changed the system menu its like it flashes up for a second just before it redirects me to the bad system menu.

Also this maybe important. When I changed from 4.1E to 4.1U in the wad manager I choose to uninstall the 4.1E before I installed the 4.1U, maybe I uninstalled some important IOS files that I need to manually put back?

In a worst case can I use somebody elses bootmi nand backup to restore?
