Homebrew Homebrew game Ultimate Switch Port Thread

Is it possible to port Hylics or fear and hunger 2: termina? There is already a port of fear and hunger (which is also made with RPG Maker MV)

Does someone know how to change the xbox button symbols to playstation style symbols in the recent recomps/ports of the xbox360 games ?

Hello, thank you all for the absolutely glamourous work.

I was just wondering what are the possibilities of a SWAT 3 Switch port?

gears2-nx

Gears of War 2 (Xbox 360, retail disc) running natively on the Nintendo Switch. It's not an emulator: the game's PowerPC code is statically recompiled to C++ with ReXGlue, with the codegen manifest, function hints and generated-code fixes of gears-of-war-2-pc-port (the PC port), built for the Switch as a homebrew NRO, and frames are drawn by a native deko3d renderer from the game's translated shaders. It follows ds2-nx, the Dead Space 2 port, and the Dante's Inferno port.

Status: 1.0.0 — playable with the CPU overclocked (~27 fps on average, mostly 24-30 in fights); every shader of the game, read from the card on demand. Slow at stock clocks. What it took: gow2/PORTING.md.

Performance (measured on a console)

1.0.0

Playable: ~27 fps on average, mostly 24-30 in fights. Played on 2026-10-23, levels 1 and 2 (26 minutes, plus a 4-minute run through the level 2 forest), console handheld, sys-clk at CPU 1785 / GPU 614.4 / RAM 1600 MHz. The long run had the profiler's stack sampler on (it costs ~8 %), so the numbers are a little low.

Installing gears2-nx 1.0.0 (Gears of War 2 for Nintendo Switch) gears2-nx is a native port of Gears of War 2 (Xbox 360) for the Nintendo Switch, implemented as a homebrew application. No pre-built files are distributed; the game code, shaders, and the application itself must be compiled on your own computer using your personal copy of the game (Xbox 360 disc). Version 1.0.0: Playable with overclocking (~27 FPS on average; typically 24–30 FPS during combat). All game shaders are loaded from the SD card on demand. Requirements Item Details Nintendo Switch Must have custom firmware (Atmosphère) and the Homebrew Menu installed. microSD Card ~8 GB of free space; formatted as exFAT or FAT32 (individual game files are smaller than 4 GB). Game Disc Image Gears of War 2 for Xbox 360: an .iso file, a .7z archive containing an ISO (can be read without extraction), or an already extracted folder containing `default.xex` and the `GearGame` directory. Supported executable: Title ID 4D53082D, Media ID 63AF211E (version 0.0.0.5) or 33FCE762 (version 0.0.0.6 — European disc, verified). Title Update Not required and not supported; the code is compiled from the base executable (similar to the PC port). Computer macOS (verified) or Linux (untested); ~12 GB of free disk space; internet access. The `default.xex` header is verified; other versions of the executable are incompatible with the source code. Step 1. Tools (one-time setup) Xcode Command Line Tools: run `xcode-select --install`. Homebrew (https://brew.sh), then run `brew install cmake ninja python git`. devkitPro: use the installer from https://github.com/devkitPro/pacman/releases, then run `sudo dkp-pacman -S switch-dev deko3d`. Vulkan SDK (https://vulkan.lunarg.com): `dxc` and `spirv-val` are required for shaders; on macOS, it installs to `~/VulkanSDK`. Step 2. Prepare the game files git clone --recursive https://github.com/VasilkovND/gears2-nx cd gears2-nx python3 gow2/tools/stage_sd.py --disc "<path to ISO or .7z file>" -o sd/gears2-nx The script will unpack the disc into `sd/gears2-nx/game/` and verify the `default.xex` file (this may take a few minutes). If the disc is already unpacked, use `--folder <directory>` instead of `--disc`. Step 3. Build the program and shaders gow2/tools/build_mac.sh sd/gears2-nx/game The first run will take a long time (tens of minutes) and require ~5 GB of disk space: the script will download the `gears-of-war-2-pc-port` (a specific, verified version) and `ReXGlue`, generate game code from your `default.xex`, unpack the game archives, extract and convert the shaders, and finally build the program. Result: gow2/out/sw/gow2.nro gow2/out/shaders/gow2_shaders.dslib gow2/out/shaders/shadercache_dksh.bin Step 4. Copy to the SD card sdmc:/switch/gears2-nx/ gears2-nx.nro (renamed from gow2/out/sw/gow2.nro) gow2_shaders.dslib (from gow2/out/shaders/) shadercache_dksh.bin (from gow2/out/shaders/) game/ (copy the entire directory to sd:/gears2-nx/game/) Logs are written to sdmc:/switch/gears2-nx/logs/. Launching Launch any installed game while holding the R button: this will open the Homebrew Menu with full memory access. Launching via the Album (applet mode) will not provide enough memory. Select Gears of War 2.

Build

devkitA64, libnx and deko3d from devkitPro (sudo dkp-pacman -S switch-dev deko3d), CMake, Ninja, Python 3, clang and the Vulkan SDK (dxc, spirv-val). On a Mac:

git submodule update --init sdk
python3 gow2/tools/stage_sd.py --disc "Gears of War 2.iso" -o sd/gears2-nx
gow2/tools/build_mac.sh sd/gears2-nx/game

build_mac.sh runs, in order:

  1. gow2/tools/codegen.sh: fetches gears-of-war-2-pc-port and ReXGlue v0.10.0 at pinned commits, builds ReXGlue's rexglue tool for the Mac, generates the C++ from your default.xex with the PC port's manifest and hints plus gow2/codegen/names.toml, and applies the PC port's fixes (jump tables and unresolved branches, ARM memory barriers, spin-loop pauses).
  2. gow2/tools/shaders.sh: expands the cooked packages (GearGame/CookedXenon, LZX), extracts the shader containers from their shader caches and builds gow2_shaders.dslib and shadercache_dksh.bin.
  3. The NRO: gow2/out/sw/gow2.nro.

It's good having one person to keep up with all the releases putting them on the list because it's a full on job in of itself. I am grateful to @RobZilla10001. I don't think I'd have the fortitude to keep up with all my ports myself :P
I tell you, I get a murderous rage when i'm updating the list, finish, and then there's 3 new ports sitting here waiting on me :rofl2:

Also, the wife asks why I'm jumping up to run to the office at all hours, I told her "I've become important to the community; it's quite the burden..." and whip my cape around like I'm the Dark Knight.

For real. @RobZilla10001 is providing a public service, as far as I'm concerned. The rate at which these ports pop up is wild. Appreciate it, Rob.
