I like to think that a software solution can be found to made use of this type of thing:
(if not, then just dock after injecting the payload)

And as for the docked USB HDD solution... that should be not too far off...(SX OS 1.3/1.4)

You used a Nyko dock though which is proven to damage Switch consoles after updates. Your best choice here is to join a lawsuit against Nyko or get another Switch.

So looks like we're getting usb loading soon. My hard drives are ready.

Me:
"I don't know if you've mentioned this before but USB drive would be really nice for me since I only use the switch in docked mode.

thank you very much. "

Them:
"Hello Comp,

we will have a solution in the future for docked mode only."

:)
i would like to see usb support,i do have (2) 5tb usb hard drives looking for some action.

Currently from all 200 or so xci dumps, that equates to 700gb or so trimmed. I would say 400gb or even a 256gb microSD should suffice to put most of the games you are interested in.

Are there any news on this? SD Cards are expensive and even 400GB are easily filled up by now
