Hello everyone, I currently have a nice retroarch setup for Nintendo games on the switch. I would like to make a second retroarch for Sega games only (I am OCD with having sega and Nintendo games separate from one another). Is there anyway to have two separate occurrences of retroarch and subsequently have two separate installations of retroarch on a modded Switch?

(I am OCD with having sega and Nintendo games separate from one another).
this makes absolutely zero logical sense to me they aren't IN the emulator they are just run by it. but you might as well not even use the switch at all if you want them separate I mean according to your logic it would be blasphemous to play sega games on a Nintendo device

Agreed.

Each Core is isolated already. ROMs are separated by directory.
Retroarch brings the isolated components all together in a unified front end.

If OCD drives one to undo all that just leave Retroarch alone and don’t make it do things it wasn’t designed to do.

Just install standalone emulators for each engine.

For example, pNES and pSNES are great on Switch.

Or just use standalone emulators? I don't like retroarch and I use pfbneo/psnes/pnes/pgen/mgba for all my retro games.
I personally don't recommend this for one simple reason. save compatibility. with retroarch its as easy as moving your .srm from one device to another while stand alone emulators tend to have their own form of saves which you MIGHT be able to convert to work on other devices.

I currently have the prb fba arcade emulator with a custom .nsp file. I started with this and really enjoyed the compatibility and interface so I have kept it. I moved onto retro Nintendo games and used retroarch due to compatibility. I created a custom .nsp file for this as well. I simply wanted way to have retro sega games in a separate entity on the switch menu (with 32x compatibility) since my organization had started this way. I will probably just consolidate everything into retroarch because I do not know how to decompile and compile emulators and consolidating it will be easier.

Thank you to the few people who actually responded to my question with a focused answer regarding using two separate retroarch occurrences. I have been tinkering with homebrew and softmodding for 15 or 20 years and have seldomly posted questions due to how angry people become over an idea that they do not like.
