Trump is attempting to bribe the voters into voting for the Republican Party in the Midterms

I pity the suckers who believe this for even a second.
There are only two groups that would.
1. The most desperate people of the US who are a paycheck away from being on the streets. They'll roll the dice for any chance to get $5,000, even if they're pretty sure it's fake.
2. The most die-hard of the MAGA cult. If the money isn't given to them, then they'll just blame congress for not appropriating the $1.3 trillion necessary for such an inflationary thing.

It’s actually kind of frustrating because I wish they would have an honest conversation about this stuff. I am not even her to shit on Trump, I just want to understand why and how they can still support someone like this? Party lines aside, Trump is openly doing corrupt shit, how has he not crossed a line for them? I want to hear from them directly
I think there may be some people suffering from post-cult shame. People feel embarrassed that they were suckered, ashamed that they believed obvious lies (Even when people told them over and over they were lying), and they don't want to be reminded of the repercussions of their support. Talking about it can make them angry at themselves, so people avoid the subject entirely because it's emotionally difficult. They may have a lot to say, but repression is just easier.

Honestly, I'm not even sure if I'd be able to have a calm conversation about the topic with them at this point. People have fallen for the schtick THREE TIMES!!! Now it seems the third time was the charm, and the entire world is in upheaval due to this administration. All countries holding US debt are selling as fast as they can, bonds area rising like crazy, BRICS is closer to throwing the US off as the global currency, and they're 40 trillion in the hole with nothing to show for it. Shit is getting bad.

As someone else pointed out, it's almost 1 trillion of cash

$1.3 Trillion actually. May as well be a gazillion because, just like with the DOGE and tariff checks, we will never see a penny. Trump actually did the same thing at the end of his last presidency, suggesting Congress pass $2000 checks in a desperate bribe after he fucked up the world with his terrible COVID response. Mitch McConnell and the Republican Congress had a fit and lowered it to $600 and Democrats had to finish up the job by issuing $1400 checks after they won the election.

Now think again about what the chances are that Republicans would pass $5000 checks. Lol.

Of course then all you democrats didnt agree that it was buying votes.
I think you're missing some context on that one. Trump originally oversaw the COVID relief payments. It was extremely bipartisan and passed with 92-6 in the senate (Six republicans said no. All democrats said yes). Congress allowed $600 to be sent out, but Trump wanted it increased to $2,000. The house passed it, but McConnell in the senate didn't allow a vote.

Biden then came in and said if they got two extra seats, they'd be able to pass the $2,000 that was previously promised. Which they did do with an extra $1,400.

What Trump is trying to do now is create a new payment that doesn't exist under the pretext of dividends and making it conditional on the Republicans saying in power.

You can try to say that they're both examples of tying financial benefits to an election, but the circumstances and the status of the payments are pretty starkly different.

I still have the 400 dollars Elon Musk gave me in like 2024. I planned to put it towards a Switch 2, but no OLED was released and Switch 2 price was jacked, lol.

Trump promised me and gave me $1,200 via a stimulus check in 2020, and I ended up buying a gun and ammo with it. Just in time for the Summer of Love! I live in a god awful neighborhood, so it really came in handy!

Democrats in my state in 2020/2021 promised me I'd get $2000 dollars if I voted for them, and gave me only $1400 dollarsin 2021. I don't count the 600 dollars they gave out separately! Sad.

Most likely. Can't remember the specific situation, but here's an international independent(1) saying the same thing. :)

It's not buying votes...it's elaborating the position of the opposition.
...which turned out to be exactly right, going by @titan_tim 's response.

(1) democrats are too rightwing for my taste

What payment is that? Is that one of the DOGE checks that they talked about? I thought nothing ever happened with those.

That sounds right, there was a first round that was up to $1,200.

That's basically what I mentioned two comments up. Not sure what to tell you, but both sides wanted to do that, Republicans and Democrats. Both sides wanted to increase the $600 to $2,000. Only difference is that you would have never gotten the extra $1,400 if McConnell's still have rule over the senate, since he blocked it continually as he did before the election.

I am not a Democrat and I was in the boat that him announcing a stimulus check right before an election was obvious bribery. That said, at least Trump had the reality of Covid backing his action. Which did give some debate to his actions back then. This time is just outright bribery. He’s not even attempting to connect it to anything reasonable, literally just saying vote GOP, get money.

No matter how you look at it both should be considered trying to buy votes. Worst part is they are using our own money (covid stimulus was paid with future tax money and tariffs are passed down to customers aka us.)

Well you were wrong then and you're wrong now, you managed to learn nothing in 6 years, truly an achievement.

Elaborate or shut up. I agree both are a form of trying to buy votes. Besides who says i need to learn anything, unlike you i already know neither side has my interests and well being at mind. Both sides are responsible for where we are financially. Once you learn what I know maybe then your eyes will truly be opened and the healing can begin.

There truly is a difference between what happened in 2020-2021 vs now. In 2020 both sides saw that there was a large number of people suffering and could benefit from an injection of money. It was truly bi-partisan. If McConnell hadn't blocked the final amount to get to $2,000, the democrats wouldn't have bothered with that promise in the campaign.

With this current situation, there is no underlying issue, and Trump is just saying he wants to give out $5k. No talking to congress about it. No getting buy-in from the left. Just "Here's cash if we win!"
Both sides are responsible for where we are financially.
Yup. Borrowing without any restraint. This graph is a bit old and only goes to 36 trillion. But the rate it's going up is just incredible. In order to pay it off, they're going to have to make the US dollar worth next to nothing.

I do, because you do. Sit down.

A stimulus check is a government-issued direct payment to individuals intended to spur economic activity during financial downturns. Definition by Investopedia of all things. Covid was a time of financial downturn and who made that promise wasn't in power. So being elected was the only way to deliver it.

Dump is in power right now, and according to him the US has never been economically better, so there is no financial downturn to offset. So, this is a bribe and has very little in common with your 2020 nonsense. Why doesnt he just issue it now?
