Hello, i have a little question
is it normal to have a file called emunand.bin a the root of the sd card (i have installed rx tool with emunand and i am currently on 9.2) i
i ask because i have messed up with emunandtool for extracting i think

After downgrade on n3ds to 9.2, I'm loading the emunand just fine, but i'm having a hard time updating it to 9.5.
An error 0xD8E08027 occured when installing 000400300000B902.cia (the other cias are fine using bigbluemenu).
After reboot i've got a black screen on emunand just after the home loading.
My cia 9.5 package is fine, i've already updated 2 other n3ds with it, The 2 of them came with the 9.2 without downgrade.
Anyone having the same issue???
Same issue :/
For now i'm staying on 9.2 emunand

when trying with sysupdater (like in the OP) it's the same issue it
except with sysupdater it crashes back to the home screen, but after rebooting into emunand it's the same issue

has anyone tried updating emunand on japanese system 9.2J to 9.5J ?

I've tried downloading the update packs, but it always returns an error on sysupdater
"000400102002CA00.cia is missing do you put it in updates folder blabla"

You actually need to delete that title from the update pack when you move it onto your SD card - due to the way the downgrade works, that particular title can't be updated (and doesn't need to be updated either).

Yeah i suspected so, if it doesnt need to be updated, is there any tutorial to skip those cia on sysupdater?

EDIT: When i first run sysupdater, it managed to install native_firm, and a few cias, then when it gets error on that CA00.cia, sysupdater just pops back to emunand.

Tried to turn it off and I can still coldboot to emunand like normal, what i want to ask is, is it ok for native_firm and a few 9.5 .cias to be installed on 9.2 emunand?
I afraid it will become somewhat hybrid 9.2 with several 9.5 system cias.. LOL
Will it prevent me from updating to future emunands?

Thanks

FYI, delete the faulty cia it's not needed after downgrade and install the other cias.
If you have a black screen when booting on the emunand proceed with this :

I found the solution for those that downgraded and get the black screen.

Go into your SD-card (on your PC) and rename your emunand folder (Nintendo 3DS/XXXXXXXXXX) to something else.
Now start your 3ds and boot into emunand. It will recreate the folder (but without your installs). This is fine.
Take out your SD-card and go back to your PC. Move all the files from your renamed emunand folder to the one that just got created EXCEPT FOR THOSE THAT CONFLICT. DO NOT MOVE THOSE. IT WILL NOT WORK.

Worked for me ^^

Worked great for me too.

You can remove it from the updates folder that you copy all of the CIAs to - the name of the CIA is the same as the title ID.

I'd recommend restoring the emuNAND from a backup if at all possible if you have an upgrade that got stuck halfway like that - I was never able to get mine to boot after getting it stuck halfway, though.

Worked perfect!, time to setup Cakes/rxTools and ReiNand!

I have an issue now.
I want to update emunand from 9.2 to 9.5, so I am following this guide.
However, after replacing the old updates folder with the new one containing the 9.5 files I can no longer boot into rxtools + emunand.

I can however go into homebrew right away thanks to menuhax and ctrbootmanager and access sysupdater there. If I click update in sysupdater now, will I be fine?
I don't know if I have a way to verify that I am in emunand right now and not in sysnand. But theoretically, since I chose type 2 menuhax and I didn't press a button I should be in emunand, right? Since I didn't boot into the normal sysnand 3ds menu.

so we can only update emunand up to 9.5? I see other saying thay have 10.3 on emunand is that correct? or am i missing something?

n3ds only allows for firmwares up to 9.5 (or maybe 9.6, not sure). o3ds can go higher.

Edit: ninja'd

Is 9.5 really needed for anything?

I want to play with .cia's, interested in MHX, Mystery Dungeon, Yokai Watch and Etrian Odyssey maybe. Don't care about badges.

I just don't want to risk anything at this point, takes so long to get it all going again

I just updated my Emunand to 9.5 and it was a breeze, You have to install sysupdater cia on emunand then run sysupdater from emunand and update. Just make sure your in emunand or you could brick it. What i did was i changed my theme to a different color in emunand so i know what im running.

New 9.2 downgrade and emuNAND user here, I have a couple of questions before I'm attempting to upgrade my emuNAND to 9.5 since I'm on a new3DS.

First of all I do have the necessary 9.5.0-23E files to upgrade however I don't have a SDXC compatible card-reader for my 64gb microSD (I got by with the internal 3DS management and a Android tablet) so I can't use Emunand Tool. I did however dumped my EmuNAND.bin via EmuNAND9, that's essentially the same as backing up goes, right?

Second question, I'm booting to EmuNAND via rxTools CTR autoboot and the sysUpdater Github mentions:

IMPORTANT: Don't run this with any sort of firmware spoofing enabled like Gateway mode/rx mode/whatever or it will brick!

RX Mode is NOT rxTools EmuNAND, right? That's the part the confuses me.

Thanks for help and answers in advance!

Im sure you need the 9.5 files on your sd card other wise how will it know what to install. You should be ok booting to rxtool and installing and runing the sysupdater cia from rx emunand. Just make sure your in rxtool emunand before you do anything. I did the update with rxtools and had no issues on a N3DS

Thanks for the reply, you got me wrong through on the SD card part. Of course the files need to be on my SD card I was just saying that I can't mount my SD card as an actual drive in Windows so Emunand Tool doesn't work because it expects the full SD card to be mounted. I transfer stuff to my card via the new 3DS's internal Wifi management function. And alright I'll wait for confirmation on EmuNAND.bin and then go ahead.

EDIT: The update to 9.5 worked like a charm! :D
