Trying to test boot

I have a couple wiis to try and fix, one sends a black video signal when turned on and thats it. First thing I tried is replacing the bluetooth chip but that didnt work. Next im gonna try swapping the wifi card.

My question is how put back together does the wii need to be to boot. Do I need to put the disk drive back on before testing?

Yep you also need a working (electronically) optical drive - although the console will IIRC boot without, pretty much all official software, even the all digital ones, freeze without it
