Transfer profile and games to another 360

Hello everyone!
Sorry to bother you, but I need to ask you a question.
I have two Xbox 360s, the E and the Slim 4 GB.
Unfortunately, the newer one has a reader that is no longer working properly (sometimes it says that the game disc is unreadable or needs to be cleaned).
As far as you know, if I take the 250 GB hard drive from the E and put it in the 4 GB Slim, will all the game saves and profile remain, or do I have to do a more laborious transfer via USB?

Could try adjusting the pots on the laser. Otherwise, transfer is the only option because the "new console" will ask to format/sign the unregistered HDD (360 E).
